Did Carole Baskin kill her first husband? Aside from
who should play Joe Exotic in the
Tiger King movie, that may be one of the most pressing questions on people’s minds in the year 2020. So much so that Baskin has basically refused any and all interviews since the Netflix documentary was released. Yet when two YouTubers went on the journey—and it’s a journey—to interview the animal rights activist, they learned that Jimmy Fallon may be her one weak spot.Josh Pieters and Archie Manners pulled out all the stops to get Baskin on a video interview recently, in a ruse that started weeks ago. The duo had contacted the Big Cat Rescue owner for weeks and pretended to work for a third-party company that produces segments for
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Eventually, through a pre-interview with a burner phone, persistence, and good-old fashioned luck, they finally managed to get Baskin’s consent. And that’s when the real fun started.
“Like
Tiger King, this is a story of loopholes, lawyers and lies,” the guys say in the video, which explains exactly how they managed to get Baskin on the line. For the interview itself the guys explained to Baskin that she wouldn’t actually see Fallon but that he could see her. They then proceeded to ask her pre-recorded questions that they had sourced via YouTube over the past few weeks. “Fallon” asked Baskin all about how she was surviving the quarantine (she’s had to let go of half the staff given there’s no tourism right now), and at one point even asks her, “I mean, wow, when does anyone get to see a cat?”“After COVID-19, I just don't know if we'll ever be able to do tours again,” Baskin said, while wearing the same floral crown that she became known for on the documentary. TBH it all sounds like it could be pretty litigious, but Pieters and Manners seem to have lots of experience pulling this kind of thing off. On their
YouTube channel, which boasts nearly 1.4 million subscribers, they feature videos of flying celebrities to random locations to receive fake awards, selling microwave meals on food delivery services, and tricking influencers into selling gravel, among other pranks. Thankfully for them it seems like Baskin was okay with how things played out in the end too."I was suspicious as we were doing it because the questions appeared taped,"
she told E! News in a statement. "But had no idea it would turn out to be such a fun prank. It gave us a very welcome good laugh. I appreciate their cleverness and that they created their video in a way that I don't feel was in any way mean spirited."Now that any potential lawsuits are hopefully pushed aside (just ask Joe Exotic how litigious Baskin can be), it sounds like the door is open for the real
