Watch Shawn Mendes cover Stevie Wonder for the 2020 TIFF Tribute Awards

Turns out, Shawn Mendes’ soothing voice singing Stevie Wonder is the exact thing the Toronto International Film Festival was missing. Well, at least, until just now when Shawn and his tousled mane of quarantine hair virtually stopped by the 2020 TIFF Tribute Awards (streaming now on CTV) to cover “Love’s in Need of Love Today.” Maybe we can have some nice things in 2020.The Toronto native filmed the cover virtually from home as the only musical performance of the night which recognized the likes of Kate Winslet and Sir Anthony Hopkins. Shawn himself also launched a brand new honour, the Changemaker Award, as part of a collaboration between The Shawn Mendes Foundation and TIFF."It makes me so happy to be a part of such a special night and to see so many films and filmmakers get the recognition that they deserve," he said after the performance. "I'm extremely honoured to announce that TIFF and I have partnered for an annual Shawn Mendes Foundation Changemaker Award. Basically, an award that will support filmmakers who are making films with a social message."He also thanked everyone else involved in the ceremony for inspiring others with their work. The Changemaker Award will be presented to one film at the festival this year.

In addition to Mendes, the Tribute Awards, which were hosted by eTalk's Tyrone Edwards and Chloe Wilde, featured appearances by Regina King, Ava DuVernay, Jodie Foster, Colin Farrell and Olivia Colman.
