It was a photo finish on Tuesday’s episode of The Voice (Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pET on CTV2) and proved just how ‘live’ the live shows are this season. Host Carson Daly barely finished announcing the name of the fifth and final performer making it to next week’s finals before cameras cut out. Team Blake’s Toneisha Harris won the Instant Save to secure her spot alongside Team Kelly’s Micah Iverson, Team Nick’s Thunderstorm Artis, Team Legend’s CammWess and Team Blake’s Todd Tilghman for the Season 18 finals. Typically at this point in the competition, the finalists have been cut down to a Top 4 but this year, The Voice is giving one extra contestant a chance to compete in the finale and win it all.Tuesday’s episode revealed which contestant from each team would be making it to the finals, leaving the five female singers to battle it out for the Instant Save win and final spot in this season’s boys' club. A favourite from the start, Toneisha Harris was surprisingly not a given in the Top 5, but it’s important to note that the final four received the most votes for their team, which means it’s possible that fellow Team Blake artist Todd Tilghman was the only contestant to receive more votes than Toneisha. One thing we do know for sure is that this has been one of the most impressive seasons ever and Tuesday had the semi-final performances to prove it.
TONEISHA HARRIS – TEAM BLAKE
One of the upsides of The Voice being forced to move to at-home performances is getting to see all four coaches react to the performances as they happen. Case in point; at the 55-seconds into the clip below, viewers can see that the coaches are getting into Toneisha's song. Coach Blake described her vocals runs as the “Mariah Carey whistle tone thing.” That’s technical enough for us. “I didn’t even know you could do that! The season isn’t long enough,” said Blake. When you’re right, Blake, you’re right. But seriously, how did Toneisha Harris have to battle for a spot in the finale?
MEGAN DANIELLE – TEAM KELLY
An "Oh SHHH" moment felt tangible the second Carson Daly announced Megan’s song choice of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.” Continuing her streak of emotionally gripping performances, Megan finished her stint on The Voice with a timeless classic and her version was raw and gritty and still achingly beautiful. “You are so rock and roll,” said Clarkson. “A lot of people can sing, but not a lot of people can move you.” Clarkson has continually promised to help Megan with her career post-Voice and we can’t wait to hear more from this incredibly gifted artist.
ALLEGRA MILES – TEAM NICK
We haven’t heard much Shawn Mendes this season, but Allegra pulled out a welcomed ballad by the Canadian pop singer for her final performance. Showcasing moments that were reminiscent of Florence Welch, Allegra’s performance of “In My Blood” continued her trend of combining vulnerability and her unique musicality, making every song her own. “Each step along the way you’ve just gotten better and better,” said Nick, adding “Having the chance to work with you was such an honour.” Nick said he was sure that Allegra’s performance was one that would make Shawn Mendes proud.
ZAN FISKUM – TEAM LEGEND
Zan and her collection of wide brimmed hats closed out her time on this season of the show with a cover of Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way,” showing off the incredible softness and strength of her unique voice. With vocals that lend themselves beautifully to just about every genre, Zan’s journey on The Voice has been one marked by creativity and consistency. “Your musicianship, your range, your willingness to take risks musicality, your angelic voice, just so many great things we’ve seen throughout this competition,” said John. “You’re able to master any song you sing.”
JOANNA SERENKO – TEAM BLAKE
Joanna returned to her comfort zone on Tuesday night with a jazzy soul performance of Allen Stone’s “Unaware.” The neo-soul singer delivered a beautiful cover that fit her voice like a glove. Returning to the vocal style that helped her earn a four-chair turn, Joanna’s exit from The Voice was as strong as her entrance.
