The wildly popular '90s sitcom The Nanny is set to make a return but not in the way you might be thinking. No, it’s not going to have a reboot like Roseanne or Will & Grace which picks up where we left off 20 years ago. Rather, the original cast will be reuniting on Zoom for a virtual table read of the fan-favourite pilot episode. Star and creator Fran Drescher made the announcement on her social media channels with a Zoom screencap of the entire cast, each with huge smiles on their faces. Wow it’s like looking in a mirror, because we can’t stop smiling either! And neither can the die-hard Nanny fans out there. She had recently teased that something big was in the works for those of us who can’t do without our favourite raven-haired child-carer with a Long Island accents and a heart of gold, but on Tuesday night, the big news finally dropped. “Nanny fans alert!” Fran tweeted. “It’s happening!” Drescher went on to release a statement that read, in part, “Laughter is the best medicine! So, in these challenging times, [Peter Marc Jacobson] and I thought, wouldn’t it be great if we pulled together the original cast of ‘The Nanny’ for a virtual read of the pilot? It’s a once in a lifetime Pandemic Performance for our fans around the world who are currently stressing in isolation and could use a real upper! It sure has given each of us a lift and we hope it does for you as well.”
