‘The Flight Attendant’ renewed for season two

Kaley Cuoco is taking flight again.

It’s been a good year for Kaley Cuoco. Not only did she film the Ontario-shot The Man From Toronto and star in the first series she produced from the ground-up, The Flight Attendant, but now HBO Max has also confirmed that latter series for takeoff on season two.

“My reaction to the news of a @flightattendantonmax season 2 pick up,” Cuoco wrote on Instagram over the weekend alongside an image of her character, Cassie Bowden, staring into the camera in shock. “omggggggg THANK YOU EVERYONE THAT HELPED ME TURN THIS DREAM INTO REALITY who’s ready for more?!!?”

The renewal news isn’t a giant surprise to anyone who has been following some of the behind-the-scenes developments over at HBO Max. The show was originally supposed to be a limited-event series and was touted among some of the exciting projects in store for HBO Max (alongside the Gossip Girl reboot and the Friends reunion) as the streaming service got ready for its launch earlier this year. Then the (bonkers but fun) show debuted and people kept discovering it, leading to more viewers each week over its eight-episode run. The renewal announcement dropped just in time for the season finale on December 17.

The Flight Attendant is based on the novel of the same name Chris Bohjalian, and it revolves around an alcoholic, international party girl flight attendant named Cassie who suddenly finds herself in a world of trouble when a passenger she spends the night with winds up dead. In bed with her. And she has no recollection of what the heck happened the night before. Michiel Huisman, Rosie Perez, Zosia Mamet, Michelle Gomez, T.R. Knight, Colin Woodell, Merle Dandridge, Griffin Matthews and Nolan Gerard Funk also star.

While some fans may be a bit surprised the series will continue past the original planned episodes, showrunner Steve Yockey revealed that a potential sophomore run was always in the cards. Plus as anyone who tuned into that finale already knows, there are some definite possibilities in store for Cassie and co.

“Our initial priority was we want to do this limited series that’s eight episodes of television that really feels like it has a beginning, middle, and an end, and is dramatically satisfying,” Yockey told Deadline in a spoiler-filled interview ahead of the official renewal news. “Like, Cassie goes on this journey. She learns something powerful about herself, and she helps solve a mystery, and at the end of this finale we want people to feel like ‘I went on this journey and I’m happy,’ and so if they get to have more of it, it’ll be an exciting thing rather than well, they better answer these cliffhangers.”
