Sisters Kaylynn and Haley knew they had a long leg ahead of them on The Amazing Race (Wednesdays, 7 p.m. ET on CTV) after coming in last place in Paraguay last week. So when they spent hours at the bottom of the pack in France this time around, they decided to enjoy themselves—and each other’s company—instead of stressing about how far behind they were. As it turns out, that positive attitude paid off in the end.

Emily in Paris has Nothing on These Teams

If the teams on The Amazing Race were allowed access to social media their Instagram accounts would definitely give Emily in Paris a run for her money (though their wardrobes certainly weren't on her level). On Wednesday night the remaining eight duos were told to self-drive from the airport to Domaine de Chantilly, a beautiful chateau where they had to find real-life people dressed like famous portraits. However, the teams needed to travel there in manual cars, so for those who didn’t know how to drive a stick shift, the night suddenly took a pretty frantic turn. Most teams were able to handle that stick without too many problems, but superfans Will and James—who somehow practiced balancing bottles on their heads but not driving a manual car before the show—definitely had a hard time getting out of the parking garage. So much so that Leo wound up sprinting up the ramp and moving their car to the side for them so that the other teams could at least pass. It was a bit of karma after Will and James U-Turned Leo and Alana, but the fans quickly recovered when they realized they’d been in the wrong gear. However it was volleyball players Riley and Maddison who arrived at the chateau first, and they set the pace for the rest of the show. They easily won the night and a five-day trip to Vietnam in the process, breaking Will and James’ winning streak. Behind them were Hung and Chee, Leo and Alana, Will and James, DeAngelo and Gary, and Eswar and Aparna, who finally recovered after it took Aparna 16 times to complete the chateau challenge. It just goes to show you that sometimes the only thing to do is to keep calm and race on.[video_embed id='2074950']MORE TV NEWS: New cast of 'Gossip Girl' spotted filming on steps of the Met in NYC [/video_embed]

Getting Lost Again... And Again

That lesson definitely applied to this week’s bottom two teams, who were hours behind the other racers. Unfortunately for Kaylynn and Haley, they didn’t just get lost early on, but they also had trouble driving that stick shift. That put them waaaaay behind at the beginning of the night, plus they had that extra Speed Bump (cleaning horse saddles) to worry about too. Fortunately for them though, they weren’t the only directionally challenged team of the night. After breezing through the art challenge and frantically whipping up Chantilly cream for pies, Michelle and Victoria went on a serious road trip in the wrong direction and could not find their last destination, the carnival, at all. As they themselves predicted Michelle started spinning out and she began blaming Victoria. Victoria tried to calm her older sis down but by the time they got to the carnival six hours later they both knew it was over.
That made the last two arrivals at the pit stop extra bittersweet. On one hand it was hard not to feel good for Kaylynn and Haley when they realized they weren’t in last place; their joy was so infectious. But Michelle and Victoria were also so defeated, and they were a lot of fun to watch on the show. It’s kind of sad that bad luck got the best of them in the end. “We’re so thankful for everything. This is the closest that we’ve ever been in our lives,” Michelle said upon their elimination. “We really are best friends now. We were not close at all before,” added Victoria.Hey, sometimes it’s all about perspective, right? And a lifelong bond with your sis is definitely worth more than a million bucks to plenty of fans out there. Meanwhile, the remaining seven teams head to Germany in next week’s back-to-back episodes, where everyone will probably be hoping for the days of taxis once again.Watch The Amazing Race Wednesdays at 7 p.m. ET on CTV.[video_embed id='2049925']BEFORE YOU GO: 'Horse girl' from Alberta can gallop and jump just like a horse [/video_embed]
