The TV nominations for the 2022 Critic’s Choice Awards were just announced in Los Angeles, and we have a sneaking suspicion that the cast of Succession (stream now on Crave) won’t be saying “no comment” come awards night. The cast and show are leading the pack with a whopping 8 nominations; more than any other show.

As if garnering a nomination for Best Drama Series wasn’t enough of an honour, the show’s cast made a big showing in the acting categories, too.

Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong are up against each other for Best Actor in a Drama Series. Nicholas Braun, Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen will duke it out for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and J. Smith-Cameron and Sarah Snook are in the race for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Ted Lasso, Mare of Easttown, Evil, and WandaVision were also top nominees.

Mare of Easttown (stream now on Crave) came up with five nominations with a Best Limited Series nod and honours for Kate Winslet (Best Actress in a Limited Series), Evan Peters (Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series), Jean Smart and Julianne Nicholson (both as Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series). Jean Smart also pulled a Best Actress in a Comedy Series nom for her starring role in Hacks (stream now on Crave).

While some big names in television, and some newcomers, dominate the noms, some hard-working Canadians were also recognized by their peers in Hollywood.

Martin Short is nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Only Murders in the Building. Sandra Oh got a Best Actress in a Comedy Series nom for The Chair. The TV special of the Newfoundland-based Broadway musical Come From Away is nominated for Best Movie Made for Television. And Joshua Jackson’s work in Dr. Death got him a Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie made for Television nom.

Also, we are very pleased to see Korean juggernaut Squid Game recognized with a whopping three noms— Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung-jae), and Best Foreign Language Series.

Actress, singer, and host of her own cooking show, Selena Gomez grabbed a nom for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Only Murders In The Building, reportedly making her the youngest and first Mexican-American nominee in that category ever since it debuted in 2011.

Don't forget there is also a film portion of the awards, and those nominations will be announced December 13, with the big show taking place in the new year on January 9th.
