LeBron James may have taken his trash-talking too far after criticizing the season one finale of Squid Game to fellow Lakers' teammate Anthony Davis. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of the popular Netflix series, caught wind of the comments and showed no mercy to the GOAT in basketball.
We should warn you now, we will not spoil the binge-worthy show for those of you who haven't made it to the end yet, BUT this video definitely will. Watch at your own discretion.
When asked about LeBron’s comments by The Guardian, Hwang didn’t hold anything back when responding to the NBA star's comments.
“Have you seen Space Jam 2?” he playfully asked the interviewer. Yikes.
To be fair, LeBron’s 2021 take on the original basketball cult-classic, Space Jam: A New Legacy, only has a 26% on Rotten Tomatoes and has received some not-so-nice reviews from movie critics and movie-goers since its release. So well-played, Hwang.
The Squid Game mastermind continued by defending the ending, explaining that he stands by the conclusion he created for the successful Netflix show. He also showed some love for LeBron to prove the Space Jam slight was all in jest.
“LeBron James is cool and can say what he wants. I respect that. I’m very thankful he watched the whole series. But I wouldn’t change my ending. That’s my ending.”
“If he has his own ending that would satisfy him, maybe he could make his own sequel. I’ll check it out and maybe send him a message saying, ‘I liked your whole show, except the ending.’”
The ending of the show has been a hot topic among more than just the basketball community, of course. Many Twitter users agree with James and voiced their distaste for the finale episode, but it seems as though the creator isn't phased by the haters one bit.
Hwang has already been talking about doing a second season of the show in his own time (like, after he makes a movie). Until then, we will be patiently waiting for your Squid Game remake, LeBron.
