When the fifth season of The Good Doctor (Mondays, 10 pET, CTV) debuted, fans everywhere expected to see Shaun (Freddie Highmore) and Lea (Paige Spara) walk down the aisle thanks to all those wedding-heavy promos.
However, the wedding in question turned out to be a dream sequence, and now the storyline is stretching across the entire season. So will they or won’t they walk down the aisle? Highmore isn’t spilling any tea, but he does admit there are some problems in paradise.
“The wedding day itself is still several months away, and they've got a lot to deal with before they get to that point,” he teases to Etalk. “Lea has always treated Shaun like an equal, that's one of the things we've always loved about her. She doesn't really coddle Shaun, but she makes a mistake earlier this season that definitely puts the two of them in conflict with each other,” he continues.
“That will have repercussions for them in their relationship and their impending marriage.”
While we wait to see how this all shakes out, we decided to revisit some of our other favourite TV weddings from over the years to see how they all stack up.
***DISCLAIMER: our criteria for "best TV weddings" is that they made good TV and/or gave us all the feels. Please don't @ us, we just like these couples.
Only The Office could take one of the most beloved couples, inject their wedding with a viral video aisle-bit, and still make it as romantic as ever. Sure enough, when Jim and Pam said, “I do” under that Niagara Falls backdrop, it was pure magic.
“I bought those tickets the day I saw that YouTube video. I knew we'd need a backup plan,” Jim told the cameras. “The boat was actually Plan C, the church was Plan B, and Plan A was marrying her a long, long time ago. Pretty much the day I met her.”
What is the best tv wedding, and why is it David & Patrick on Schitt's Creek?
— Natalie (she/her) 🏳️⚧️ (@natgrace79) August 17, 2021
Is there a more literal and metaphorical happy ending than the one Dany Levy and co. doled out on the series finale of Schitt’s Creek? Of course, everything went awry in the worst possible way when David and Patrick’s big day finally arrived, but the family solved it in true Rose style—including Moira officiating and David wearing an iconic suit.
In fact, the entire thing was perfect from beginning to end. Hands up if you’re still swooning over Noah Reid’s hot take on Mariah during his vows.
We dare you to watch Angel and Papi exchange vows without getting teary-eyed… or without having serious goosebumps.
The third and final season of Pose was certainly emotional and powerful, but it can also be summed up with this wedding, in which a trans woman had the wedding of her dreams despite being conditioned to believe she didn’t deserved exactly that. It was also the wedding fans deserved, and reminded us all that there are a lot more stories of love out there that we have yet to see on television.
No one expected Uncle Jesse and Aunt Becky to walk down the aisle without a hitch, but when Jesse got stuck in a tree while sky diving and even landed himself in jail before the big day, things looked pretty dicey. Luckily, Becky proved she really was the one for him when she forgave it all.
After all that, fans were rewarded with Jesse sweetly serenading Becky with his sweet vocals in his song, “Forever.” Cue the John Stamos crushes everywhere.
Every time I watch lily and Marshall’s wedding I want to cry 😭 #HIMYM pic.twitter.com/TFL2H9pkn3

When everything went wrong leading up to Marshall and Lily’s big day on How I Met Your Mother, it seemed like they were both ready to throw in the towel. But then Ted came up with the brilliant idea to just do the wedding they originally wanted.
Fast forward to some sweet vows underneath a tree at the park. Ted and Robin witnessed the beautiful exchange, while Barney officiated the legen…(wait for it)… dary day. High five!
Why am I sobbing at Cam and Mitchell’s wedding at 1044am

When wildfires thwarted this happy couple’s big day, it was, surprisingly, Jay to the rescue. The fact that the Pritchett patriarch wanted to give his son the wedding of his dreams (after being uncomfortable with the relationship for so long) left everyone in their feelings. But the real big moment came when Jay walked Mitchell down the aisle, leaving us all in a puddle of tears.
I loved Howard and Bernadette's wedding pic.twitter.com/ZMnSi7RgGd

When Bernadette revealed she wanted to be married to Howard before he went to space, the race was on to figure out all the last-minute logistics. In the end, the wedding day was totally on-brand for this show, with the couple tying the knot on the roof of Penny, Leonard and Sheldon’s apartment building under the stars.
The entire gang got ordained for the ceremony itself, and each member of the crew gave their heartfelt congrats before Howard headed off to Russia. Another bonus? This also happens to be the only episode in which we ever get an actual glimpse of Howard’s mom, Mrs. Wolowitz.

it’s chandler and monica’s 20th wedding anniversary :’) pic.twitter.com/9NO8biJfVM

Chandler running away from his own wedding is probably the most Chandler-like thing we can think of him doing on his big day, so it was spot-on when it actually happened. In fact, everything about this Friends wedding was perfectly scripted for these characters, from the gang assembling to find Chandler without Monica finding out, to Chandler coming to his own senses.
Of course let’s not forget the true star of the wedding though, which was, naturally, a newly ordained Joey. “How you doin’!?”

We told you our criteria hinges on if the wedding made good TV. Nobody said it had to be romantic. It would be blasphemous of us to list the best TV weddings and not include this blood bath of a ceremony. Book fans braced themselves for this episode while those who skipped the Game of Thrones novels needed therapy after seeing what went down when Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey got hitched.
To this day, the murderous events make this one of the most shocking episodes of television to ever air, not only because it marked the demise of so many fan-favourite Starks, but because it proved that not even weddings are off-limits when you’re fighting for control of the Seven Kingdoms.

Randall and Beth’s wedding day 🥰 pic.twitter.com/tMKEdbKXQc

It would be impossible not to include the wedding between everyone’s favourite TV Mom and Dad, right? Randall and Beth have always been serious relationship goals, and even though we only got to see their big day through flashback sequences, it definitely featured all of the goods.
From Kevin’s goatee, to the Pearson twin helping his brother out with his vows, to the way Beth rocked her dress and made us hungry for nachos, this is one TV wedding we’d want to attend over and over again.
