The votes are in, the songs have been sung and the last three identities on this season of
The Masked Singer have been revealed. From start to finish, the finale was a tense one as Frog, Turtle and Night Angel each brought their best performances to the stage in hopes of taking home that coveted Golden Mask Trophy. But in the end only one could be named this season’s champion, and it was Night Angel who blew audiences away.
The first female winner
Jenny McCarthy predicted Night Angel would take it all home early on, and once again she was right. She also correctly guessed that it was
Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss under that mask, something that probably won’t sit well with Nene Leakes (but then again what does?!). Burruss was easily the favourite heading into the finale so the fact that she won was no huge surprise, but it sure must have been validating. Since many people know the 44-year-old as a reality star, restaurant owner, and former Xscape singer, her appearance on
The Masked Singer probably changed a lot of perceptions about her. It was also kind of hilarious not to be able to see those facial expressions she’s so well known for.[video_embed id='1501883']RELATED: Ken Jeong showed us his infamous dance moves and it was the best[/video_embed]"For a long time, I really stopped singing by myself because you get negative feedback and so it kind of messes with your head," she said to the panelists after her mask came off. "But thank you. So I had really stopped. And I just really appreciate you guys for helping me build my confidence back." In other words, no one should be surprised if we all hear from Burruss on a platform bigger than RHOA in the very near future… or if her new single, “Used to Love Me” shoots straight to the top of the charts.
Meanwhile in a series of
tweets, Burruss revealed that she wasn’t allowed to take home that coveted trophy right away, but that it’s being shipped to her and it could be on display at her Atlanta restaurant, Old Lady Gang, in the near future. It seems like an appropriate place for the first female winner to display the fruits of her labour, as she now joins Wayne Brady and T-Pain in the
Masked Singer winners hall of fame.
The amphibians put on a show
Just because Night Angel was the frontrunner heading into the finale didn’t mean Frog and Turtle failed to bring it. Frog performed a killer rendition of "Bad Boy for Life" (or should that be “Bad Frog for Life?”) and Turtle nailed a performance of Lewis Capaldi's "Before You Go." Both performances had the audience standing on its feet (with the exception of one adorable pooch who was dressed up as a frog and stayed seated), but it was Turtle who shelled out the better performance according to voters.
That meant Frog was the first to be unmasked and to no one’s surprise it was Bow Wow. As for Turtle? Well the internet has been saying since the beginning that he was Jesse McCartney, and those intuitive viewers were right all along. Even more impressive was the fact that Jenny correctly guessed the identities of all three finalists, officially becoming this season’s panelist champ. (Sorry
Ken Jeong, but you never really stood a chance.)
With another season wrapped there were plenty of sparkles (was anyone coveting Nicole Scherzinger’s hair?!) and confetti (you have to feel for the maintenance crew cleaning up that stage) to keep everyone jazzed through the summer. So now the show takes a break before filming season four, which is tentatively scheduled for fall. And considering how much life this series gave fans during the current coronavirus pandemic, it’s safe to say they, and we, can’t wait.Rewatch episodes of
