Grey’s fans, who haven’t seen the bromantic duo onscreen together since Dane’s character Mark Sloan was tragically killed off at the beginning of season nine (he was put on life support and died following a deadly plane crash that wiped out a bunch of characters in season eight), were all-in for the reunion. They immediately flocked to the comments section to profess their fandom and to ship the guys’ real-life friendship. Because, #brothersforlife. “Welp. Now I have to watch Grey's from the beginning again,” one fan wrote on Instagram. “A total fangirl moment. Such a [heart-faced emoji] throwback,” wrote another.During the actors' time together on the series they had quite a few ups and downs onscreen (as tends to happen when love triangles are involved), but offscreen they’ve clearly maintained their friendship. Maybe they bonded over playing brutal Grey’s deaths? After all, Derek Shepard was eventually killed off too, back in season 11 following a tragic car accident.Either way, the photo was clearly the good news viewers needed right about now. It’s been a brutal stretch considering the current 16th season was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic, fans were up in arms about the way OG character Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) was written off the show, and the planned finale, which was supposedly going to revolve around a deadly explosion, was scrapped. How that affects things heading into the already renewed 17th season is anyone’s guess.“We're waiting to see what happens with the world,” showrunner Krista Vernoff told The Hollywood Reporter. “I will start a season-17 writers room in May, and at that point, I imagine our conversation will be about starting our story from where we left off in season 16. But I don't think we can take unproduced scripts that we didn't shoot and shoot them. We're going to have had a break and have new ideas. We've been texting each other ideas already. Some of those things that we had decided, we're changing because we'll have had a break and have come up with better ideas. And some of it is going to have to change because you're taking what was going to be a regular episode and have to turn it into a season premiere and that will require some reimagining.”Would reimagining a storyline with a ghostie McSteamy and McDreamy reunion be too far out there? Yeah, probably for this show. For now, at least the world has blurry pictures like these to remind everyone that now is the perfect time for a rewatch.[video_embed id='1789900']Before you go: We tested Grey's Anatomy stars to see how well they actually know the show[/video_embed]Blurry pic of how to hang out 6 feet apart @PatrickDempsey pic.twitter.com/cDsqbHigBc
