The first look at the new season of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman has arrived and shows the former late-night host going deep with his guests. In a brief clip between Letterman and Kim Kardashian West, the reality star can be seen in tears while Letterman consoles her. It’s unclear what the pair are discussing, but one thing we know is that it doesn’t take much for anyone to cry in 2020.The first trailer for season three arrived this week and opens with lighthearted footage of Letterman and Kardashian enjoying a stroll through a drugstore. Kardashian provides Letterman with a quick tutorial on how to find his best angles for a selfie before extending her lesson to include mastering the airdrop. Texting pics is so 2019.

The subject matter gets deeper between the pair when Kardashian joins Letterman in studio, which features an audience in masks this season. “I don’t know why I’m crying. I’ve talked about this before,” says Kardashian, who is consoled by Letterman. What the pair are discussing remains to be seen, but it could be anything from Kardashian’s terrifying 2016 robbery in Paris, which she has spoken about on Keeping up with the Kardashians and The Ellen Degeneres Show, to the death of her late father Robert Kardashian, whom she often remembers on her long-running reality series. It’s possible that Kardashian’s tears are related to a more recent event, most notably her husband Kanye West’s ongoing manic bipolar episode. In July, the makeup mogul released a statement about West’s mental state and its impact on her family but has otherwise not publicly spoken about it.The new interview isn’t the first time Kardashian has appeared on Letterman’s post late-night retirement show. During West’s season two appearance on My Next Guest, the rapper and Yeezy designer invited Letterman into his family home and helped the comedian improve his swag level with a new outfit, which Letterman then showed off for Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner.
During his appearance, West also talked to Letterman about the devastating loss of his mother Donda West and his struggle with his mental health. Describing bipolar disorder as a ‘sprained brain,’ West explained the condition as having a heightened awareness of the universe. Comparing a manic episode to a sprained ankle, West said in the case of the ankle, people wouldn’t ask the injured party to push harder as they do in the case of someone with a mental health issue. “With us, once our brain gets to a point of spraining, people do everything to make it worse,” said West.
Kardashian is one of the many high profile guests who will appear on the upcoming season of Letterman’s Netflix series. Grammy winner Lizzo, actor Robert Downey Jr. and comedian Dave Chappelle are all featured in the first trailer for the interview show. In the newly released two-minute preview, Chappelle and Letterman discuss the impact of the recent global support of the Black Lives Matter movement and the highly publicized cases of murders in the Black community by police. “I was shocked that nobody ever talked about what it feels like to watch a man get murdered that way by a man in a police uniform,” said Chappelle. “I don’t want retroactive justice. I don’t want you to ‘get him’ after I’m dead. I want you to stop it.”Season three of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman premieres October 21.
