Of course it didn’t hurt that Nick also sported a festive red and gold jacket. Or that all of the eliminated contestants so far gathered for a special rendition of “Jingle Bell Rock.” Heck, fans were even there when Tori Kelly returned to perform her brand new Christmas song for the audience. But what everyone was really there for were three new performances from the Top 3, as well as any last-minute clues heading into next week’s finale. Let’s dig in, shall we?
The Sun kicked off the night with her rendition of “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree,” complete with spinning background dancers dressed as—you guessed it!—trees. She revealed that her family jams out to the tune come the holidays, so it was a natural pick for her to perform. Eagle-eyed viewers also noted the spinning globe ornament, although that could have just been a reference to how Earth spins around the real sun. Sometimes it’s hard to tell with this show.
Notable season-long clues: Mickey Mouse, a chihuahua and a tennis racket were all early objects shown during The Sun’s clue packages, but she has also opened up about her bouts with depression, growing up in a fractured home, and facing ugly rumours in her life. “At first, stardom was great, but it was a ton of pressure,” she’s said. Oh, and no one should forget that in her spare time, The Sun likes to take road trips in an RV.
Judges’ best guess: Katharine McPhee
Internet’s best guess: LeAnn Rimes, Christina Aguilera
We’re going with: LeAnn Rimes FTW. She’s opened up in the past about her depression, and who could forget all those times that Brandi Glanville dragged her for her relationship with Eddie Cibrian on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills?
Everyone’s favourite pink reptile returned with panache to the holiday Masked Singer stage, where a cartoon of his younger self opened up a sparkly pink hat on Christmas morning. Oh, there were puns aplenty as he introduced his iteration of “Silent Night,” which he says he believes encompasses the true meaning of Christmas. However it’s important to point out that his background dancers were dancing cats with giant snowflakes on their backs, which was totally a mood worth mentioning.
Notable season-long clues: The Croc says he’s happiest in water, but he grew up in Hollywood surrounded by “heartache and instability.” In fact, his father didn’t believe in his talent at first, but is now a huge supporter. The number five, a mirror ball, “step-by-step” and a house of cards have all also been seen throughout his clue packages. Last but not least, Croc also once travelled six continents in 100 hours.
Judges’ best guess: Adam Lambert
Internet’s best guess: Nick Carter
We’re going with: We have to agree with the Internet on this one—there are just too many clues to ignore. Nick Carter has five siblings, he appeared on Dancing With the Stars (hence the mirror ball), and the “step-by-step” clue could be a reference to the Backstreet Boys/New Kids on the Block tours. But (and just go with us here), how great would it be if that last clue was actually a reference to Donnie Wahlberg, and Jenny McCarthy’s husband has been under that mask the whole time? That unveilling would be the reaction heard round the Masked universe.

Last but not least everyone’s favourite fungi, the Mushroom, was there to spread some holiday cheer with his rendition of “The Christmas Song”—complete with background dancers dressed as gingerbread men. His clue package had the least actual clues of all though, with bits of dancing, a high-five with ousted contestant Broccoli, and the hint that his favourite Christmas singer of all time is Nat King Cole—hence the song selection.
Notable clues: Aside from the fact that this shroom turned his hobby into a career, he has doled out many Hamilton clues, revealed that he had a scrappy upbringing, and he has also made references to Mean Girls. Over the season, Mushroom also dished that he’s here to help others, he’s a real smarty pants (a class president with a 4.0 grade average), and that someone close to him has died from the pandemic.
Judges’ best guess: Jaden Smith
Internet’s best guesses: Todrick Hall, Jordan Fisher
We’re going with: Nothing against the fine guesses online, but Robin Thicke seems so sure that Mushroom is Jaden Smith, and how can we disagree with our fellow Canadian? Usually when judges are that sure about someone they turn out to be correct, so here’s hoping for Robin’s sake (and now ours since we’re also going with it) that it is indeed Will Smith’s second son under that mask.
Who’s right? Who’s wrong? And who will ultimately win this thing? Find out next week as the show crowns a winner.Watch The Masked Singer Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.
