He may not have been Tom Hanks’ level of debonair (because who can beat showing up in a suit in your very own kitchen after beating coronavirus?) but Brad Pitt held his own as the surprise “host” of Saturday Night Live’s second “At Home” edition on April 25. But he wasn’t the only celeb to (virtually) stop by: Adam Sandler, Paul Rudd, Miley Cyrus, and even Jason Sudeikis kept fans everywhere up late with their own surprise contributions.Up first was Pitt, who opened the night by granting a wish: playing Dr. Anthony Fauci. The US health expert has been on-camera a lot given the current coronavirus pandemic, and has said in the past he’d want Pitt to play him on SNL. Turns out the powers that be were listening, because it totally happened. “Good evening, I’m Dr. Anthony Fauci,” Pitt—almost unrecognizable—cold-opened. “First, I'd like to thank all the older women in America who have sent me supportive, inspiring and sometimes graphic emails… Now, there's been a lot of misinformation out there about the virus. Yes, the president has taken some liberties with our guidelines. So tonight, I would like to explain what the president was trying to say.”[video_embed id='1896512']RELATED: Brad Pitt is actually a big 'Letterkenny' fan[/video_embed]The Oscar-winner then went on to give his own hilarious comments to some of Donald Trump’s recent claims in the news, presidential statements like, the coronavirus test is beautiful, everyone can get a test, and experts didn’t know what the virus actually was. Pitt then capped the sketch by taking off his wig and glasses and staring directly at the camera with a message: “And to the real Dr. Fauci, thank you for your calm and your clarity in this unnerving time,” he said. “And thank you to the medical workers, first responders and their families for being on the front line… and now, live, kinda, from all across America, it's Saturday night.”The episode then launched into Kenan Thompson’s popular “What Up With That” segment, which featured guests Charles Barkley and DJ Khaled, who didn’t get a word in with Thompson’s tune-happy host, Diondre Cole. Adding to the colourful cat emojis and split-screens featuring Diondre’s “backup” singers was Jason Sudeikis—in a sweat suit—performing the running man and other appropriate dance moves throughout. Later on Paul Rudd also stopped by for a sketch in which he catches up with his cousin Mandy (Heidi Gardner), who believes she may have coronavirus. For those keeping track, Mandy is also “cousins” with James and Dave Franco.
It’s fair to say the celebrity cameos just kept coming. Adam Sandler, who could maybe be described as an older version of Pete Davidson, teamed with Davidson to sing about being stuck at home during the pandemic. The action flipped between Davidson and Sandler’s respective quarantine locations, with appearances by their family members. “Wife tried to kiss me/ I straight up denied her/ Miss the NBA and I miss Rob Schneider,” Sandler sang at one point. And, because Schneider is in everything Sandler has basically ever done, the actor creeped up at Sandler’s window. “You can do it!” he said in that fake French accent. Because, of course he did.
The real scene-stealer though may have been “musical guest” Miley Cyrus. The singer took a break from hosting her own Instagram talk show to belt out a powerful rendition of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here” next to a firepit. The red and black look was definitely a mood, proving that in just a few short weeks at-home production values have really improved.Saturday Night Live hasn’t announced whether it will unroll another At Home edition in the coming weeks, but considering this installment wasn’t announced until a few days beforehand, odds are if another episode comes it will be top-secret until the very last minute. Until then the pressure is on because it’s anyone’s guess how the show might be able to top itself next.[video_embed id='1945761']BEFORE YOU GO: Comedian turns Donald Trump's medical advice into a hilarious performance[/video_embed]
