The blocks were out in full effect on Monday’s episode of The Voice (Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pET on CTV2). Coaches Kelly Clarkson and Block, sorry, Blake Shelton both used their only blocks of the season to secure singers for their team and both times they walked away, or spun in their chairs, victorious. Blocks may be playing dirty, but their effectiveness is proven.Nick Jonas and John Legend also fought hard on Monday night to fill up their teams, with both coaches scoring some of the best voices yet this season. From four-chair turns to singers who grew up singing in their family band, Season 18 is delivering the talent.

THUNDERSTORM ARTIS

Consider us Thunder(storm) struck. Thunderstorm Artis, who may have the world’s coolest name, was the only four-chair turn on Monday night and left his impact in a major way. Thunderstorm didn’t reinvent the wheel with his performance of The Beatles “Blackbird,” but his cover was anything but straightforward. Any time something looks and sounds that effortless it means years of hard work and tears are usually behind it. Nick said that Thunderstorm’s performance is what The Voice is all about; John said his tone was magical; Kelly finally played the American Idol card and even host Carson Daly told Thunderstorm he had one of the best performances in the history of The Voice. Thunderstorm landed on Team Legend, which means there’s a good chance John is once again going to take the W.

ALLEGRA MILES

Allegra may be only 16, but she put a mature spin on Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” that was well beyond her years. John regretted not turning around for Allegra after seeing how young she is and realizing that her control issues were easy fixes. Kelly compared Allegra to Season 14 winner and Team Kelly singer Brynn Cartelli, who was only 15 when she won The Voice. Good pitch, Kelly. Nick related to Allegra by pointing out that they’re both from musical families and they both wrote their first song at 12. Another good pitch. Blake put his support behind Team Nick, but Kelly jumped in for a final push and reminded Allegra that she is the queen of covers and knows how to help artists put their own spin on songs. Great try, Kelly, but competing with Nick Jonas for a teenager is an uphill battle.

JOEI FULCO

Block Shelton returned on Monday night and used his block to rob Joei Fulco of the chance to work with Nick. Blake played the game like a coach who has been around for 18 seasons and watched for Nick’s reaction before expertly deploying his block bomb. Joei’s love of country rock and incredible Cher vocal theatrics she displayed while singing the icon’s 1971 hit “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves” would have probably landed her on Team Blake anyways, but she does have a background singing in her family band, so…good call on the block, Blake.

SAMANTHA HOWELL

Block Shelton made a second appearance on Monday night when he got blocked. It was only fair. Singer Samantha Howell performed REO Speedwagon’s “Take It On The Run” and gave off enough country vibes that Kelly used her block on Blake. Blake knew he was blocked, but blocked Blake didn’t balk and turned anyways. Nick also turned, resulting in a fight that quickly got dirty when Blake pledged his allegiance to Team Jonas and argued that every JoBro fan in the world would vote for Samantha. But she’s a country artist and Kelly is country! Actually, Samantha doesn’t consider herself a country artist, but, as Kelly said, God does. That same God smiled on Kelly on Monday night and rewarded her for her block, with Samantha choosing Team Kelly.
