After an extra long wait, the 75th Emmy Awards are finally upon us! It’s time to celebrate the shows from the past year that had us on the edge of our seats, yelling at the TV, crying into our couch snacks and laughing until we cried.
You may have noticed that there was no Emmy Awards show in 2023. Let us explain: the show was initially set to air on September 18th, 2023, but with the WGA and the SAG-AFTRA strikes in full swing during that time, the Television Academy had to postpone their ceremony. We guess it’s safe to say that this Emmys season is better late than never since this past year of television has been pretty incredible.
Succession and The Last of Us are the top players at this year’s show, with both series making Emmys history!
Succession (stream now on Crave) is the first show to garner THREE Lead Actor nominations for its stars Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, and Kieran Culkin. The Last of Us (stream now on Crave) also made history as the first live-action video game to earn major award consideration in Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series, and Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series categories.
We also need to shout out The White Lotus (stream now on Crave) for being nominated for 26 awards, including Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series, three nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series, and four nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series.
