Sorry but there will be no One Direction reunion on James Corden's Late Late Show finale

Earlier this week, we reported on the prevailing fan theory that Britain’s most beloved boy band One Direction might reunite during James Corden’s final episode hosting The Late Late Show. There was some serious sleuthing going on, with fans tracking each individual member's whereabouts. Oh Louis canceled his Asia tour you say? And Harry won’t resume his Love On Tour until May? We were all convinced.

But the Corden has put a nail in the coffin of that rumour, shutting it down explicitly on the show’s Twitter account.

“Nobody loves the boys more than us … but this story just isn’t true,” the post began with a screencap of a Daily Mail article asserting the reunion ws 100% a go.

*Sings to the tune of ‘Night Changes* Does it ever drive you crazy just how fast a rumour changes?!

The post continued, “What is true is we’ve got an absolutely brilliant 2 hour finale planned to celebrate 8 years of #LateLateShow at 10pm on April 27th.”

First of all, we know this tweet comes directly from Corden’s mouth, because who else but a Brit would say something like “absolutely brilliant.” You can hear the British accent from here! Secondly, we are certain this is going to destroy the moral of the 1D fan hive. For years, fans of Harry, Zayn, Liam, Louis, and Niall have been begging - nay, pleading -  for Corden to get the band back together by any means possible.

In fact, in 2020, 1D’ers went wild on the internet, bombarding the British star of “Gavin and Stacey” to kidnap One Direction and force them reunite on his show. The online chaos was so great that it forced Corden to address it on his show.

At least, even without a One Direction reunion, we will always have the memories, as the fab five made many appearances on his show over the years. There was of course their first appearance in 2015 less than a month after Zayn Malik announced he had left the group.

They participated in perhaps the most iconic Carpool Karaoke ever that to date has over 195 million views on YouTube. *sniffle* Those were the days.

Harry has of course made many solo appearances on The Late Late Show, not least of which was this incredible Crosswalk Musical appearance where he zip-lined across a busy Burbank intersection much to the chagrin of motorists

.

Harry also gave a shoutout to his former One Direction bandmates earlier this year when he accepted his BRIT award for artist of the year. “ I want to thank Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn because I wouldn't be here without you either. Thank you so much," he said.

It’s been a year since Corden announced he was leaving the show after seven years at the helm. “It’s been a really hard decision to leave because I’m so immensely proud of the show,” Corden said in a statement to Deadline. “I’m thrilled to be extending [for a year]. I always thought I’d do it for five years and then leave, and then I stayed on. I’ve really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure.”
