Everything you need to know about the spunky new mystery show 'The Spencer Sisters'

If you're looking for a fun, women-centered, relationship-driven mystery procedural, look no further than The Spencer Sisters (Fridays at 9pET or stream anytime here). Lea Thomson and Stacey Farber play a mother/daughter duo who *look* like they could be sisters and take it upon themselves to solve crimes in their community. 

What is The Spencer Sisters about?

Spencer Sisters stars Lea Thomson as internationally renowned mystery novelist Victoria Spencer, and Stacey Farber as her estranged daughter, Darby -- a former Toronto police officer who just quit her job. The duo have A LOT of personal drama to unpack, but their working relationship is impossible to deny when they are thrust into solving a mystery together. Soon, the two decice to partner in a private detective agency in their hometown of Alder Bluffs and solve crimes full time. What could go wrong? 

Why should I watch The Spencer Sisters?

Spencer Sisters is kind of like Murder, She Wrote with a Gilmore Girls twist (where the mom/daughter dynamic is more Emily/Lorelai that Loralai/Rory) and Veronica Mars vibes. Basically, if you like stories about skilled, quick-witted women who solve crimes and work through their personal drama, you'll like this show. 

Where do I know the Spencer Sisters cast from?

Lea Thomson may look familiar becuase she played Michael J. Fox's mom in Back to the Future! You may also know her from Switched at Birth, The Year of Spectacular Men, Caroline in the City or The Trouble with the Truth. Stacey Farber is best known for playing Ellie Nash on Degrassi: The Next Generation and has made appearances on Virgin River and Schitt's Creek. 

Additionally, you can expect to see Thomas Antony Olajide (Learn To Swim) as Darby’s high school best friend and Alder Bluffs cop Zane Graham; Edward Ruttle (Arctic Air) as Darby’s high school flame Doctor Lucas Collins; Husein Madhavji (Saving Hope) as Victoria’s “IT Consultant” (a.k.a. hacker) Alastair Dhumal; Ayesha Mansur Gonsalves (Sort Of) as Victoria’s feisty literary agent Sarita Stark; Rodrigo Massa (El Dragon: Return of a Warrior) as Zane’s (Olajide) husband Antonio Pereira, who operates a Brazilian bistro in Alder Bluffs; Kaitlyn Leeb (Spinning Out) as Lindsay Yip – a hotshot lawyer who is Lucas’ fiancée; and Adam Hurtig (Cult of Chucky) as the lead detective of the Alder Bluff’s police force.
