It’s official: Anne Hathaway missed her calling. She should have been a karaoke game show trivia superstar (those roles exist, right?). Because not only does the Oscar-winning actress have an incredible set of pipes, she can also identify Kelly Clarkson’s Grammy-winning song “Since U Been Gone” before Kelly can. There’s gotta be a Grammy category for that.
On Tuesday’s The Kelly Clarkson Show, the Devil Wears Prada star was participating in a fun musical game with The Voice judge called, "Sing That Name That Tune," where the first chords of a pop song are played by the house band, and instead of buzzing in with the song title, ya gotta sing it.
No brainer for Kelly who has won three Grammy’s for her killer vocals, and also for Anne who wowed us with her anthemic voice in Les Miserables, right? But when the first chords of Kelly’s monster hit “Since U Been Gone” were played, it was our gal Anne – not Kelly – who identified it first, and in epic fashion too.
As Anne stepped on the stage and pounded the mic with “Since u been gone/I can breathe for the first time,” Kelly literally face planted. Honestly, fair. We’d have done the same.
This wild moment came of course after Kelly lost to Anne in identifying Billy Joel’s "Piano Man," and Hanson’s "MMMBop," prompting her to chastise the house band, “Can you play a freaking song I’ll know?”
In disbelief that she couldn’t identify her own mega hit, she bellowed at Anne, “How did you know it from just that?”
“Kelly Clarkson, if you do not understand how much we all love that song,” Anne graciously replied.
"Should I just quit? Oh my God," Kelly said with the proverbial egg on her face. "This is embarrassing…”
The American Idol winner, and American Song Contest host then added, “Whatever, I'm so happy for you. Jesus, take the wheel!" Watch out Kelly, because Anne is coming for your career (probably).
“Since U Been Gone” was originally released on Kelly’s second album “Breakaway,” which spent 21 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and the single alone has sold over 1 million copies. Kelly tearfully won the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal performance for “Since U Been Gone” at the 48th Grammy Awards.
