Last month, long-running late-night talk show host Conan O’Brien announced his eponymous show CONAN would be coming to an end. Team Coco fans marked their calendars for June 24th – the night we will all need extra Kleenex to say goodbye to our ginger-haired pompadour’d funny man (watch at 1:30aET on CTV).
Now we know who will be joining Conan for his last ever show, and it is none other than high-spirited and eternally funny Jack Black, star of stage, screen, and TikTok. We think we can all agree that Jack Black.
That’s it. That’s the tweet.
Jack Black is definitely preparing for his appearance on the last ever Conan with a lot of, er, shall we say, “classic Jack Black eccentricity.”
“What an honour!” he says of his upcoming appearance. “Is it pressure? Yeah, it's a lot of pressure. You think about that the final guest, that means you have to be the best guest of all times! Am I up to the task? Hell yes!”
“I aims to bring it Thursday June 24th!” he continued with gusto and bravado. “Let's be the best farewell host of all times! I'm getting nervous, I gotta be honest with you I’m getting nervous . . . and that's when J-Balls kicks it into overdrive!”
Oh dear, we’ve seen what happens when the J-Balls kicks it into overdrive. Jack grabs a notepad and begins jotting down his comedic and creative ideas for his Conan appearance. Licking provocatively on his pen, he jots down what he calls “spicy” ideas to “run up your flagpole” and “get the juices flowing.”
Are we intrigued? Yes. Are we a bit scared? Also yes.
Turns out Jack is also a bit scared because the camera catches him on the phone trying to cancel his appearance, admitting he has stage fright and is about to have a nervous breakdown, but once he sees the camera, his showmanship kicks back into gear.
Whipping off his sunglasses, he proclaims, “Check me out on Conan Thursday June 24th, it's gonna be lit!”
It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Jack Black has been asked to grace the final episode of a talk show. Back in 2014, he was one of the invited guests on the final episode of Jay Leno’s run as host of The Tonight Show. You might remember that Jay Leno handed The Tonight Show reigns to Conan in 2009 and then famously took back the show after less than a year. Thusly, Team Coco was born and so was Conan on TBS.
Will Jack Black make a mention of this epic late-night debacle during his final Conan appearance? We’ll just have to wait until Thursday to find out.
Watch the CONAN series finale Thursday 1:30aET on CTV.
