Kim Kardashian revealed that she failed the baby bar exam and questioned giving up her dreams of becoming a lawyer in a sneak peek at Thursday’s episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians.
Kim needed to pass the baby bar exam in order to continue on with her three more years of study, but now it appears that everything is up in the air.
“So you guys I did not pass the baby bar,” Kim tells sisters Kourtney and Khloé.
The mother of four explained in her confessional that with the way that she’s doing law school, she has to do a four-year program instead of the typical three.
“After year one, you have to take the baby bar. This one actually is harder I hear than the official bar,” Kim explains.
In another clip, attorney Jessica Jackson, one of Kim’s mentors, tells her that she needed to get a 560 to pass the test but she received a 474.
Kim said that she spent six weeks straight with 10 to 12 hours a day of studying for her baby bar during the pandemic.
“I’m a failure. To not pass gets your spirit down. It just makes you want to give up,” a defeated Kim says in her confessional.
Kourtney tries to comfort Kim by saying their late father, Robert Kardashian Sr., would be very impressed by her ambition.
"I feel like dad would be really proud of you regardless," Kourtney says. "Just the fact that you're pursuing this."
Khloé tells Kim that she thinks it’s “highly respectable” that she’s trying to become a lawyer.
“I think the time you get taken away from your family, your kids, friends things…,” Khloé says before Kim interrupts her.
“That’s what pisses me off. The fact that I spent all that time away from my kids. Like, I can’t do it again. I don’t have time to do the next test. It’s in November,” Kim said, adding that all of her extra time is going into filming the end of KUWTK and it's too emotional.
"I have every birthday under the sun, you know, it's my birthday — my 40th — I planned this whole trip and it's too late to cancel. And if I fail again, it's like, what's the point?" Kim says, seemingly making reference to THAT private island getaway back in late October.
The episode was filmed in October 2020, and Kim had to make the decision to either take the exam in November or to wait to schedule her follow-up exam in June 2021.
"I don't want to wait another year to go by for school," Kim says. "I feel like I just got to the end where I almost knew everything."
The SKIMs founder first revealed that she had decided to pivot careers from reality TV star to lawyer in an interview with Vogue in April 2019.
She said that she had decided to begin her four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco, with hopes to take the bar exam in 2022.
California is one of the four states in the United States that allows prospective lawyers to do apprenticeships instead of attending law school. There are certain things Kim must do during her four-year apprenticeship.
Kim and her supervising attorney need to submit semi-annual progress reports to the California Bar Association, and she needs to take (and pass) the First-Year Law Student’s Exam a.k.a. the baby bar exam.
She also needs to be studying law at the firm during regular business hours for a minimum of 18 hours each week for at least 48 weeks to receive credit for one year of study.
Following her four-year apprenticeship, Kim needs to take (and pass) the bar and get a positive moral character determination. She will also need to pass the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination.
Kim still has a lot of work ahead to continue on with her journey of becoming a lawyer but we're sure a new Hulu series might give us an ~inside look~.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on E!
