The first official trailer for the new, rebooted version of Gossip Girl has finally landed and it's a hell of a tease.

Narrated by Kristen Bell as the voice of Gossip Girl herself – making her the only returning member from the original cast – the trailer feels like an instant callback to a decade ago when the show first ran.

Bell's slick voice says, as the trailer opens, "You've gotten so comfortable — thinking you're in control of your image, your actions, the narrative — that you forgot one thing: I can see you. And before I'm through, I'll make sure you see you, too."

Throughout, we catch glimpses of the new cast, which includes Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak and Savannah Lee Smith.

But aside from seeing them exchange whispers, kisses and ill-fated texts, the trailer doesn't give away too much – but it does reveal a July 8 premiere date and build a good deal of anticipation, ending with that familiar "XOXO."

The original series ran for six seasons, from 2007 to 2012, and was a pop culture beacon, starring Blake Lively and Leighton Meester. Just as it does now, it followed the stories of a group of very pretty, very privileged and very messy Upper East Side private schoolers navigating their own love lives as a mysterious blogger somehow sees and reports all.

According to a press release, the reboot promises to explore "just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years.”

While the original run ended with – spoiler alert! – Penn Badgley's Dan Humphrey revealed as Gossip Girl, it seems the reboot will be operating as if that confusing bit of narrative never happened. Somehow, we're okay with that.

Also returning for the reboot are original showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage as executive producers, and writer Joshua Safran as showrunner.

The show debuts in the U.S. on HBO Max on July 8, and on Crave in Canada.
