They weren’t kidding when they said June (Elisabeth Moss) was going to burn it all down on the fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale (Wednesdays, 9 pET on CTV Drama Channel). In the latest episode of the show, her rebellion cost more lives, leaving fans pretty devastated.

Episodes 3 and 4 aired on Wednesday night in Canada, and in the third episode, “The Crossing” (which aired in the U.S. last week), the recaptured handmaids tried to make a run for it when their truck stopped to wait out a train and the driver took a bathroom break. At that point, it was either overpower Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) and escape or carry on to the breeding colony.

Naturally, they decided to run like hell.

There was a fleeting moment where June considered killing Aunt Lydia but Alma (Nina Kiri) urged her to get going so they could beat out the train. In a slow-motion montage, June, Janine (Madeline Brewer), Alma and Brianna (Bahia Watson) sprinted with the cuffs on as the driver shot at them. June and Janine made it, but Alma and Brianna did not.

As the camera sped back up both women were smashed by the oncoming train, right in front of June and Janine’s eyes.

Of all the ways a handmaid could die in Gilead, "run over by a train" definitely isn’t one you’d expect. It was without a doubt the most shocking part of the night, and this is an episode (Moss’ first as a director) that contained several torture scenes, the return of Hannah (Jordana Blake), and two handmaids getting shoved from the top of a highrise building.

It all left fans with lots of feelings.

People weren’t just devastated over the deaths though. There were some pretty strong feelings over the fact that Aunt Lydia keeps escaping these situations unscathed.

It's anyone’s guess what Aunt Lydia will do next, but for now fans can rest assured that June and Janine are at least safe in Chicago following their chill train ride in episode 4, “Milk.” Start dropping theories with your besties because a brand new episode, “Chicago” hits airwaves next week. Hands up if you think it’s going to be explosive.

The Handmaid’s Tale airs Wednesdays at 9 pET on CTV Drama Channel, or catch up here.
