The Friends reunion was on, then it was off, then it was postponed, and we have been waiting for over a year for Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Matt Leblanc to take the stage together again since the show went off the air in 2004.
But according to Courteney, they finished filming the reunion in April for HBO Max and the show is going to knock our socks off. “It was so unbelievable, so emotional,” Courteney told Ellen Degeneres on Thursday via video-chat for The Ellen Show.
She continued, “It’s an unscripted reunion and we got to be on Stage 24 for the first time all of us in, I forget how many years. 15 years? 17 years?”
Saying she has the worst memory, the reunion brought up lots of memories that she had forgotten about. “It was great. It was really fun. We had a lot of special surprises – and it was fantastic. It really was.”
She’s scarce on details but if Courteney says it’s going to be emotional, we’re just gonna have go on a break, grab our Kleenex, and hold our smelly cats tight when it finally airs. A release date has yet to be announced, but it will eventually air on HBO Max.
Courteney also chatted with Ellen about the iconic opening credits montage of the show, where Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Joey, and Ross dance in a fountain.
“You know, it’s not fun to be dancing in a fountain! I remember Matthew Perry saying at one point, and we didn’t know each other that well at that point, but I remember, and this is so Matthew, he was like, ‘I can’t remember a time that I wasn’t in this fountain.’’
Could that BE any more Matthew?
Courteney and Ellen also spoke about her real-life friendship with co-star Jennifer Aniston, and how much the two Instagram each other, like this adorable video of Jen just absolutely sucking at pool, while Courteney shakes her head.
And then of course there was the Instagram post that broke the internet, where Jennifer Aniston said hello to Instagram with the real Friends reunion (off-screen).
With all these teasers and snippets, we can’t wait for this reunion to finally air!
