Go tell the news on the ton! Now that production on season 2 of the hit Netflix series Bridgerton is well under way (sans the Duke of Hastings *sniffle*), it would seem that Lady Whistledown got wind that there would be more story to tell for the Shondaland production. Taking to Twitter, the famous, mysterious whistleblower posted an addendum to her gossip-mongering newsletter, and broke the news that yes, we will indeed be treated to not only a third season of Bridgerton, but also a fourth!

“Esteemed member of the ton,” her society paper began. “It seems we have a rather special announcement. Bridgerton shall return for seasons three and four.”

She ended off the announcement with, “This author shall have to purchase more ink.” Umm, don’t forget the quills and a massive wad of paper, m’lady!

In a statement to Vanity Fair, Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s VP of global TV, said about the renewal, “Bridgerton swept us off our feet. The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come.”

The show, set in the era of Regency London, boasting a diverse cast, and some of the sexiest bodice-ripping scenes of the century (who could forget the power of THE SPOON), followed Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and the Duke of Hasting (Regé-Jean Page) as they fake-fell in love and then fell in love for realizes over the course of the first season. The second season, also based on Julia Quinn’s historical romance novels, will follow the quest for love of Daphne’s brother, Lord Anthony Bridgerton. No word yet on whose narrative arc will dominate seasons 3 and 4, but Twitter is awash with speculation and jubilation.

Even Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope on the show (and SPOILER ALERT was revealed in the final episode to be the hand that holds Lady Whistledown’s pen, hint hint wink wink!), couldn’t contain her excitement at the confirmation of more Bridgerton.

Showrunner Chris van Dusen posted a photo from the set and added, “I’ve poured every ounce of myself into creating this show and the way the world continues to embrace it continues to AMAZE ME. Thank you @netflix.”

To say that fans of the hit Netflix show are excited would be an understatement.

The only issue fans have with Lady Whistledown’s announcement is that there is no word whether actor Regé-Jean Page will return in season 3 or 4. We already know he won’t be around for season 2, but that doesn’t preclude his return in later seasons! If nothing else, fans are holding out hope, and frankly, we are feeling their concerns.

We said GOOD DAY.
