Vacations may be something most of us can only dream about right now, but they’re still a reality for the Kardashians (and their exes, apparently). The famous family headed to a luxurious, private oceanfront property in Malibu on this week’s premiere episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians (Thursdays at 8pET on E!) because, as Kris lamented, they couldn’t go on a real vacation due to COVID-19.
So, wait, this trip to the Malibu house is... what, exactly? Not a vacation, apparently, but close enough. “If you use your imagination, we’re on the French Riviera!” Kris joked while gazing across the stunning Pacific ocean. (Meanwhile, it feels like a vacation when they play a Beach Boys song in the grocery store here in Canada, but you know what? You do you, Kris.)
The Malibu house quickly filled up with Scott, Kourtney, Khloe, Tristan, Kim, Kendall, Kylie, a handful of KarJenner grandkids and Malika, who magically appears whenever Khloe needs a pep talk. And a pep talk she did need, because the Good American founder has been trying to make a baby with Tristan.
To be clear, it’s not a romantic baby. Tristan and Khloe are co-parenting, flirting, vacationing together with Khloe’s family and having heart-to-heart discussions about how to conceive another child, but they are just friends. Did you hear that? JUST. FRIENDS. Khloe really wants everyone to know that they’re not a couple, even as Tristan licked his lips in her direction when she said she wanted another child and told the camera she can go ahead fall in love with anyone, as long as it’s him. Cool — we’ll see how this plays out!
While Khloe and Tristan figured out that situation, Kourtney and Scott were busy navigating their own dynamic. As it turns out, Scott’s girlfriend, Sofia Richie (remember when?), wasn’t thrilled with Scott’s devotion to his ex. “I do have three children, I have an extremely close relationship with my kids’ mom, and it’s baggage,” the Lord admitted. “I mean, it’s designer baggage, but it’s still there.”
Basically, Scott’s priority list begins with Kourtney and their kids, who are a unit, and anyone else that comes along has to deal with it. Kourtney appreciates that Scott wants to take care of her and is such a great co-parent, but she also wants him to live his life and prioritize his own happiness.
“It’s definitely not easy [on Sofia] that we see each other, work together and are friends,” Scott says, acknowledging that he would hate being in that position and calling Sofia “an absolute trooper.” But oh well — Kourt will always come first, sorry Sofia. After a break, a tentative reunion and finally, an ultimatum from Sofia, Scott was officially single again.
As Kim studied for a legal exam in her SKIMS pajamas and lucky slippers, Khloe continued to explore her fertility options. Sadly, her doctor had to inform her that she would be a high-risk carrier for a pregnancy, estimating that there would be an 80% chance of miscarriage. Also, the eggs that were previously retrieved didn’t survive the thaw, which meant Khloe would have to do another round of intense hormones followed by surgery to create embryos with Tristan. It was difficult news that clearly disappointed Khloe, but she was willing to give it another go.
“I keep running into more roadblocks,” she said sadly. Later on, Kim suggested that she consider surrogacy, explaining how wonderful the experience was for her. “You’ll see that the love you have for your kids is the exact same.” Khloe wasn’t convinced but didn’t rule it out, either, saying she had time to make a decision.
Speaking of Kim: while Kanye’s name was never uttered (the closest thing we got was a reference to the kids being in Wyoming), his absence was meaningful as we now know that Kim has filed for divorce. They’re sure to address the split on the show at some point, but it’s not happening yet.
Finally, as the episode came to a close, there was some good news. Khloe successfully completed another egg retrieval and despite a frightening “hiccup” with her heart while under anesthesia, she was feeling really good about the results. Using Tristan’s sperm, Khloe’s fertility team had successfully created three embryos — two boys and a girl. Khloe was eager to have a sister for True and eventually, a brother or two. Time will tell how things work out, but we’re pulling for you, Khlo!
