Singing the national anthem at the NBA All-Star game is a nerve-wracking experience and not for the timid. Remember Fergie’s 2018 performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner”? That didn’t go down well, my friends. So when Canadian songstress Alessia Cara was enlisted to sing “O Canada” last night at this year’s big event, there was a lot riding on her shoulders.

The “Here” singer wasn’t actually, ahem, there. She performed our true north strong and free anthem remotely from Toronto, and her stripped-down version of our hallowed anthem was praised online for its beauty, simplicity, and of course, her gorgeous voice.

Surprisingly, the anthem had one all-star fan in particular that puzzled and delighted some of us – LeBron James, whose Team LeBron won the game 170-150 over Team Durant, was caught mouthing the words to “O Canada.”

This isn’t the first time he has stood on guard for thee: back in August, before a game with the Toronto Raptors, he was noticeably singing along to our anthem (but might have fumbled a few words).

Nevertheless, Twitter, of course, began swirling with speculation. They loved that he knew our anthem, but also, what does this mean? Is he thinking of buying the Raptors? Does he want to move here? He just put his Brentwood house up for sale . . . free-agent LeBron in Canada? CAN WE MAKE THAT HAPPEN?

Does it though? Look, we love LeBron. The man is a legend, an icon, and undoubtedly an All-Star. He can do everything, including learn the lyrics to "O Canada" (after many, many, many career games against the Raptors where it's been played) so maybe it’s not the best idea to read into anything *juuuuuuuuust* yet. Let’s wait 'til he moves in next to Drake on the Bridle Path *fingers crossed*. Then get excited.

The All-Star anthems also had another star, Gladys Knight, perform the American national anthem, which of course was another glorious tribute by a powerhouse talent. But in some Canadian hearts, Drake’s enthusiastic rendition of "O Canada" during the 2019 championship playoffs will always be the GOAT.
