Love Actually is a modern holiday classic that is required watching every December. So beloved, they even made a short sequel in 2017 for the British comedy charity Red Nose Day. But the updates and reboots haven’t ended there. British pop star Dua Lipa joined forces with Jimmy Fallon last night on The Tonight Show to remind us that not only is love (actually) everywhere, but Christmas is all around us.

Running into each other in the NBC building where both The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live are filmed (she is the musical guest tomorrow on SNL!), Dua whispers her hellos to save her voice. With Jimmy a bit confused, she grabs a stack of handy SNL cue cards just off to the side, scribbles with the Sharpie for a bit, and then instructs Jimmy on her feelings. No, this isn’t a declaration of undying love like in the movie, but it is an invitation to sing!

“Hey while I’m here,” her cue cards read, “since it’s Christmas, and Christmas is the time we sing Christmas songs, want to sing a Christmas song with me?” “I’d love to!” Jimmy exclaims, “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Surrounded by poinsettias, gifts, holly, and a light dusting of snow, the duo (standing two metres apart) then grab microphones and croon the famous Love, Actually tune, “Christmas Is All Around Us.”

We’re not sure why, but this is exactly what we needed to hear right now! The glitter! The warmth! The harmonizing! This is our Friday mood. In the original movie, Bill Nighy spun the original “Love Is All Around ” by The Troggs into the Christmas carol that, even though it garnered many an eye-roll, became a number one chart-topper. We would love this for Dua and Jimmy’s version too. T

his isn’t the first time Dua has taken an established song and given it a spin. Earlier this year, she and James Corden took her songs “Don’t Start Now" and “New Rules” and spun them into a guide for dating during the time of COVID for The Late Late Show. All hail Dua, queen of the remix!
