This season of American Idol (Sundays at 8/9 MT on CTV) has been one for the books with Katy Perry’s pregnancy, switching up the format with the COVID-19 global pandemic, and of course, Canadians having our own singing representative land in the Top 20. Lauren Spencer-Smith, 17, made history as the first Canuck contestant to ever make it this far in the competition, but on Sunday night’s show it was revealed that after viewer voting, she didn’t make the Top 10.It's certainly a bummer for Lauren, Canada and anyone who took in the view from her Vancouver Island home during her performance last week, but Lauren said goodbye to the competition best way she knows how—by singing like the vocally-gifted angel she is.Taking to Instagram, Lauren sat on the floor of what looks like her bedroom and sang the bittersweet ballad, "Before You Go" by Lewis Capaldi. It’s impossible to watch this and not get a lump in your throat.

In the caption for her swansong, she wrote, “I wanted to thank each and every one of you for voting for me and supporting me. I am so appreciative to everyone who took the time to vote and tune into the show. A huge thanks to @americanidol for this amazing opportunity I am forever grateful.”She continued, “Although some may say this is a disappointment it is a huge accomplishment for all of me and my friends who were part of the top 20... I’m so excited for what the future holds and I’m excited to continue my journey and career in music!”And there's no doubt this gal is going places—in March she released an album (yes, in the middle of a global pandemic, while competing on American Idol) entitled Mixed Emotions. It's like Katy Perry said last week after Lauren's performance: "It's incredible—you're growing during a quarantine."[video_embed id='1950182']RELATED: The Canadian hopeful on ‘American Idol’ is still pinching herself[/video_embed]Elsewhere in American Idol land, Katy was up to her old antics by dressing up as a massive roll of toilet paper and poking fun at everyone's at-home activities like solving jigsaw puzzles and baking banana bread. “American Idol is on a roll,” she tweeted along with the video, and was met (probably) with happy groans from dad-joke-lovers everywhere. She pulled the same silly at-home stunt last week as she dressed up as a giant bottle of hand sanitizer. Who wants to bet that her famous left shark is going to make an appearance next week? Because we can smell it coming.Watch American Idol Sundays at 8/9 MT on CTV.[video_embed id='1951037']BEFORE YOU GO: Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande team up for new track[/video_embed]
