It’s been a bit of a month (okay, year) and with the impending U.S. election,
Veep (all seasons streaming now on Crave) is kind of feeling more relevant than ever. The show never had more than 10 episodes a season, but if seems like we have enough real-life material in just this month alone to write a full
Love Island-length season (streaming now on CTV).Even the Veep herself, Selena Meyer (AKA Julia Louis-Dreyfus),
admitted they couldn’t write comedy as good as a common housefly landing on the incumbent VP’s head during a debate. Ah, the comedy of life. In that spirit, we (along with a couple Twitter prompts) have come up with 10 episode plot suggestions based on the real news in case
Veep wants to do another season in 2021. (Fingers crossed).
1. Flyaway
It’s too easy isn’t it? A fly lands on VP Selena Meyer’s head during a crucial debate and the entire team tries to get her attention as it slowly walks around her hair and then her face without her noticing. Dan is seconds away from cutting power to the building when the insect finally decides to move on. The blogs talk about it for weeks.[video_embed id='2051341']WATCH: This fly on Mike Pence's head won the Vice Presidential debate [/video_embed]
2. Swat
Alternatively, the opposite occurs and the fly lands on Selena’s debate opponent. She grows more and more joyful the entire time the fly is on the other person’s head and audibly groans when the fly leaves. It’s Mike’s idea to
make branded fly swatters and Dan nearly quits over it.
3. Pete
In the inevitable
SNL version of the debate, Selena makes a guest appearance as herself to seem relatable and Pete Davidson plays the fly (thank you to Twitter user @ohkaythankyou and others). Selena and Pete date for an episode and a half before Amy successfully shuts it down.
4. COVID
Another pitch from Twitter (because sometimes the tweeters are the best comedians). The president comes down with COVID-19 (despite never, ever, ever making an appearance on the show) and everyone tries to contract the virus to prove how good their access to POTUS is. No one gets sick because no one is near the president ever.(Disclaimer: the COVID-19 pandemic actually shouldn’t be taken as a joke at all—please physically distance, wear a mask in public and adhere to your local guidelines).
5. Woodward
Investigative journalist Bob Woodward comes out with
a new book revealing the president knowingly lied to the American people. Selena is thrilled at the president’s scandal but exactly one day later, implies that she also knew the information revealed in the book. She did not know the information because of course she didn’t.
6. “Title that has nothing to do with what we’re about to say”
Carole Baskin is on Dancing with the Stars. Selena makes one off-hand comment that she would kill on that show. She’s never on the show because why would she be?
7. Catherine PT II
Selena’s daughter Catherine very-much-on-purpose
records her mother bad-mouthing other politicians and voters (as she does all day every day) and posts snippets to TikTok. No one can figure out where the leak is coming from because no one is young enough to know what TikTok is.
8. RBG
The show does an episode entirely dedicated to the
late Ruth Bader Ginsburg without ever making direct reference to the real-life woman. Selena's touching speech at the funeral is exactly the same as the one she gave at both Rick Cowgill's funeral and Mike's wedding in
season three.
9. Vibe
Nathan Apodaca makes the same
Fleetwood Mac "Dreams" TikTok video in
Veep World and Dan decides they need to stage a recreation for Selena’s own social media. It goes absolutely terribly and instead of making a viral video themselves, some teens capture the whole mess and that goes viral instead.[video_embed id='2050630']WATCH: TikTok star seeing success after viral Fleetwood Mac video [/video_embed]
10. Rick
National treasure
Rick Moranis is punched by a stranger in a senseless random attack and the entire world is outraged. The Veep team invites Rick (who guest stars as himself) to meet Selena at a public event where she offers condolences on behalf of the American people and calls him “an American treasure.” He is actually Canadian and points this out to her as politely as possible.Stream all 7 seasons of
