First came collaborations with Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez, and now Blackpink is getting a Netflix special. To say the K-pop group is solidifying its place in American culture at a record-breaking pace is probably a pretty valid statement, especially considering we’re still a few weeks away from the group’s debut album release on October 2.As Blinks everywhere await the release of The Album, the good news is that they can get down and personal with the leading ladies in their upcoming Netflix documentary special, Light Up the Sky. The streaming service confirmed the project debuts on October 14, which means fans will be able to jam out to the new album for a week and a half as they gear up for this inside look into the group's lives. Naturally, as the Twitter announcement promised, Blinks can also update their own Netflix user profile icons to be one of the Blackpink’s four members: Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, or Lisa. Because, hey—maybe it’s time to update that old Orange is the New Black profile icon after all.According to Entertainment Weekly, Light Up the Sky is an “all-access documentary” directed by Caroline Suh (Salt Fat Acid Heat) that uses exclusive interviews with previously unseen footage of the group. That includes their training days as well as moments from their climb into becoming the global sensation they are today. It all culminates with their buzzworthy, 2019 Coachella performance.“Director Caroline Suh's trusted relationship with Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa offers organic and honest moments that give viewers an authentic inside look into the lives of Blackpink, as well as the dedication and grueling preparation each member puts into every hit song, history-making performance and sold-out arena tour,” Netflix’s VP of docs, Adam Del Deo, said in a statement. “We're thrilled to bring their story to their fans worldwide.”"We can't wait to share our personal stories with Blinks all over the world through Netflix!" Blackpink added. “We hope this film will bring joy and light to the viewers, and they will enjoy seeing our journey together on screen from the past four years.”[video_embed id='2030720']MORE MUSIC NEWS: Justin Bieber debuts a large new neck tattoo [/video_embed]Blackpink came together in 2016 and have been killing it ever since. Their first single “How You Like That,” which will be featured on their studio album, broke YouTube records when it debuted by pulling in more than 86 million views in its first 24 hours. Fellow K-pop group BTS has since beaten that record with the debut of their first English track “Dynamite,” but the Blink fandom is strong and there’s plenty of time for a comeback.Meanwhile, after working with Dua Lipa on the track “Kiss and Make Up” from her self-titled album in 2018, the quartet teamed with Lady Gaga on the song “Sour Candy” for her recent release of Chromatica. And no one will soon forget the pure sugar rush that came in late August, when the group worked with Selena Gomez for the late summer ditty “Ice Cream.” Not only did the ladies debut at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, but they also released a stylish video that instantly broke YouTube viewing records and charted at number one in more than 40 countries.Given everything this group has accomplished ahead of its first studio album release, it’s pretty safe to say they have a sweet, sweet future ahead.[video_embed id='2030947']BEFORE YOU GO: This mouth-watering jerk chicken rigatoni is Drake-approved [/video_embed]
