Over the weekend, crooner Lewis Capaldi struggled to finish his Glastonbury set due to ongoing issues with his Tourette’s syndrome. The crowd supported him and even helped finish his songs for him, singing in unison which made for a beautiful moment. But now, the Scottish singer is taking charge of his health.

This morning the “Someone You Loved” singer posted an emotional statement to social media, announcing that he is taking a break from touring for the rest of the year to focus on his mental and physical health in the hopes that will ease some of the ongoing symptoms he’s been experiencing lately.

"First of all, thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world," he began his statement, written in white font over a black background.

"The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it any easier to write, but I'm very sorry to let you know I'm going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future," the "Before You Go" singer continued.

"I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is that I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come."

He then acknowledged he is, "incredibly fortunate to be able to take some time out when others can't," before thanking his "amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who've been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this past year when I've needed it more than ever."

"I'm so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve," he ended his statement. "Playing for you every night is all I've ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I'll be back as soon as I possibly can."

Back in April, Lewis said that he would quit music altogether if it was impacted by his Tourette’s syndrome. “If it gets to a point where I’m doing irreparable damage to myself, I’ll quit,” he told the Times of London . “I hate hyperbole, but it is a very real possibility that I will have to pack music in.”

Tourette syndrome is a disorder that causes repetitive movements or unwanted sounds — called tics — that cannot be easily controlled, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Before Glastonbury, Lewis had already canceled three weeks worth of concerts because of his Tourette’s syndrome, hoping for the big festival to be a comeback from the setback. However, his voice quickly faltered and he appeared to look dejected on stage when he couldn’t continue.

"Glastonbury, I'm really sorry," he told the crowd. "I'm a bit annoyed with myself."

Toward the end of his performance, he seemed to hint that this break from touring was imminent, telling the crowd, “" feel like I'll be taking another wee break over the next couple of weeks. So you probably won't see much of me for the rest of the year, maybe even. But when I do come back and when I do see you, I hope you're still up for watching us."

Lewis’s next scheduled concert dates included Switzerland, Australia and Asia.

The comments section of his IG post are filled with celebs and fans alike, wishing him a speedy recovery. “Fifty Shades of Grey” star Jamie Dornan commented, “Huge love to you my man. Rest up. Come back strong.”
