The song was released in 1998 but you can't underestimate the power of a TikTok remix.

In 1998, Madonna shocked fans and critics by completely reinventing her image and sound with the release of the first single off her album Ray Of Light, entitled “Frozen”, and the accompanying music video. With it, the Material Girl had become the Ethereal Girl, debuting a pop-electronica sound, a new gothic look, raven black locks replacing her usual platinum blonde, and a sombre, melancholic treatise on love.

24 years later, Madonna is revisiting that iconic song with rapper Fireboy DML for the just-released music video, “Madonna Vs Sickick - Frozen (Fireboy DML Remix)," where she and the Nigerian-born rapper introduce the legendary '90s song to a 21st century audience.

The Sickick remix, which first gained a massive resurgence on Tiktok  last year when it debuted on the platform, takes the original Madonna vocals and adds in Fireboy DML’s hip hop verses. The music video, which just dropped, includes both him and Madge dancing to the new remix, but there are homages to the original littered throughout.

The doberman, the desert, and the image of Madonna’s body morphing into a flock of ravens from the 1998 video flash in the background. Gone are her midnight goth-rock tresses however, as she shows off her still-blonde locks at 63 years old. But her black leather boustier and skirt are a fashion-ensemble nod to her previous witch-like look. She also smokes a fat blunt in the video, and even makes a nod to her early '80s couture by rocking a large crucifix around her neck

Fireboy DML’s lyrics on the remix echo the same sentiment as Madonna’s original verses and chorus when he raps, “Baby, I've been there for so long/now you say you don't want this no more/Don't make me waste my time/I've been waiting all my life."

Both Sickick and Fireboy DML have already racked up huge collabs before joining forces with the Queen of Pop: Sickick has opened for Drake, and Fireboy DML’s song “Peru” featuring Ed Sheeran is a huge global hit.

This is the first original music video the “Vogue” singer has dropped in over three years, the last being "Batuka" off of her album Madame X that dropped in 2019.

Fans are loving the remix and new video, marveling at how the woman who made it her mission to continually reinvent herself has done it again.

Madonna has had a very busy year -- the biopic she’s been writing about the early days of her career in NYC in the late '70s and early '80s is in its casting phase, with big names like Florence Pugh, Alexa Demie, Julia Garner, and Odessa Young all in the running to play the music legend.
