Scarborough’s own The Weeknd and Hollywood elite Angelina Jolie have been avoiding the question for six months, but now it seems rumours of their alleged romance are flying again. The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) just dropped his latest album, Dawn FM, and one of the tracks is making waves on social media for seemingly referencing the Tomb Raider star in a very, um, intimate way.

On the song, “Here We Go . . . Again,” Abel sings a refrain of, “My new girl, she a movie star. I loved her right, make her scream like Neve Campbell, but when I make her laugh, swear it cures my depressin’ thoughts, cause baby girl, she a movie star, baby girl, she a movie star.”

He doesn’t name Angie, who is a United Nations ambassador for the High Commission for Refugees, but many listeners are taking the meaning of "movie star" to be 1) literal and 2) a reference to the most high-profile movie star The Weeknd has been spotted with recently. (Also, shout out to fellow Canadian, Scream star Neve Campbell!)

At the end of the song, Abel even seems to suggest that the romance with the movie star is something he didn’t think could happen. “I told myself that I’d never fall,” he sings. “But here we go again.”

Back in July of 2021, Abel and Angie were spotted dining together, although they arrived and left separately. They were spotted together a second time in September, too. However, Angie also spent last summer hanging out with her ex-husband, Jonny Lee Miller. Seeing as how neither camp will confirm or deny a romance, it’s hard to tell if this is just a friendship, a work relationship, or more. The Weeknd was named a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador in October, so it's possible those dinners were just UN-related.

Abel has, of course, had his fair share of romances with other celebrities, like Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid. Those romances also wound up being used as inspiration for his songs -- his hit “Heartless” is rumoured to be about how he was characterized in those relationships with Gomez and Hadid.

During the press tour for Eternals, Angelina was asked by a Daily Pop reporter about her friendship with The Weeknd, and she very skillfully dodged the question as you can see below.

Okay Twitter, since you seem to know everything, what’s the over-under on Angie appearing in one of Abel’s upcoming music videos?
