It looks as though Donda, a.k.a. Kanye West’s next album, may finally be on the way. The rapper held another listening party at Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium on Aug. 5, sharing the latest version of the musical collection that he has named after his later mother, Donda West.
This was his second Donda event at the stadium in as many weeks. After West’s listening party on July 22, he delayed the July 23 album release. This time around, things are looking promising though, since Apple Music has listed the album as available for presale, ahead of the newly scheduled Aug. 7 launch. Not that fans are holding their breath.
For now, there were plenty of people in attendance at the second listening party, including West’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian. (She also attended the first emotional event.) That may have been slightly awkward for the reality mogul, given that there were several lyrics from the new songs that seemed to allude to their recent divorce.
At one point, the rapper implied through his lyrics that Kim was still in love with him. “Time and space is a luxury. But you came here to show that you’re still in love with me,” he rapped.
In the performance for “Love Unconditionally,” he begged her to come back to him while getting down on his knees.
In yet another song, West seemed to call his marriage with Kim the “best collab since Taco Bell and KFC” and he promised he was, “Trying to do the right thing with the freedom that you gave me.”
West’s marriage wasn’t the only subject of his music, however. Family was front and centre as West rapped about his kids, and like his show from two weeks ago, he also included a recording of his late mother saying, “You never abandon your family.” He also touched on his mental health and rapped about some of his suicidal thoughts.
The music and Kim’s appearance weren’t the only notable moments of the night, however. While Kanye was relatively calm for most of the listening party, he did bust out push-ups during some of his songs. The big moment of the night, however, came when he broke out a stunt for the final performance.
As West rapped he was suspended in the air and was gradually lifted all the way to up the ceiling. At that point, the lights went out and it was the last event-goers saw of the rapper for the night.
According to Apple Music, there are 24 tracks on Donda, although none of them have been officially titled just yet. Considering there’s a day left until the new launch though, fans should expect updates soon.
