When Canada’s own Justin Bieber announced his new studio album Justice, we had no idea that the album cover, which features The Bieb in a freeway tunnel, would be a recurring theme.
Justice features previously released tracks like “Holy,” “Lonely,” and “Anyone,” and the music video for his new single “Peaches” dropped at midnight. And would you look at that - it would seem the driving-car theme is present here too. JB is on a journey and he’s taking us with him on a glorious pastel, technicolour highway.
With Justin behind the wheel, he drives and drags the strip with his collaborators Daniel Caesar and Giveon. We are treated to flashing images of trippy, colourful lights, a peach-coloured room (of course), and massive neon lettering spelling out the song’s name. At lots of different points in the video, Justin and Daniel Caesar are seen either chilling on the hood of the moving car like it’s no biggie, or lying on the roof. Um, seatbelts, boys! It’s the law!
We also didn’t realize that JB wearing a peach-coloured suit was what we all needed to see today, but here we are.
The music video, directed by Colin Tilley, has already racked up 2.5 million views in under 9 hours at press time. And it seems that Justin is keen to continue the theme of journeying and road-tripping, because last night he also performed his song “Hold On” on The Late Late Show with James Corden (weekdays at 12:30aET on CTV), and – you guessed it – there was a very strong open-road theme. Anyone else craving a roadtrip?
JB used some old-school Hollywood magic (AKA a projector and backdrop) to make the stage look like a moving roadway. The lane dividers were blurred, and the horizon was clearly being chased. We were not mentally prepared for this trippy new vision of his, and we gotta say, we are certainly here for it.
All these new drops come just a day after Bieber's performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk (home) Concerts, where he performed a 15-minute set of his new songs, including “Peaches.” The entire month of March has been one for the record books, as he also won a Grammy over the weekend for best country duo or group performance of "10,000 Hours" with Dan + Shay. Not to be forgotten, he celebrated his 27th birthday this month too.
“Peaches” definitely has social media singing JB’s praises.
With his wife, Hailey Bieber, gracing the cover of ELLE this month, talking about how deeply-loving her marriage with Justin is, we’re gonna go ahead and say that 2021 is off to a good start for our homegrown talent. Ya love to see it!
