The Weeknd leads the 2021 Juno Awards nominations with six nods

Get ready to celebrate Canadian talent because the nominees for the 50th annual Juno Awards are here. The annual celebration of Canadian music is set to take place in Toronto this year in the city where it all started for its golden anniversary.
After being snubbed by the Grammy's this year, The Weeknd leads the Juno nominations with six nods including Juno Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year. Artists who received five nominations include Jessie Reyez, JP Saxe and Canadian superstar Justin Bieber.
Reyez is up for Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Contemporary R&B recording of the year and has two nominations in Music Video of the Year. JP Saxe is up for Juno Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Pop Album of the Year. Bieber is nominated for Juno Fan Choice, Single of the Year, Album of the Year, Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year.
The 50th Juno Awards will be broadcast on May 16 in Toronto and it will take place about a month and a half after Juno organizers originally planned to host the celebration. Allan Reid, head of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, said they hoped pushing the event into late spring would offer more possibilities for outdoor gatherings that still abide by all of the COVID-19 precautions.
This year's Juno Awards will also include three new looks for the award statuette. A gold Juno will be given to Juno Award winners, while a silver version is for recipients of a special Juno prize. Gold and silver variations will go to Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductees.
