Man, we’re already imagining the TikTok dances that will come from this work of music video mastery! Cardi B just dropped the video for her new single, “UP,” and if you’re thinking it might have something to do with a beloved Disney movie, we’re gonna keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Cardi is looking smoking in this video that starts off in a cemetery with an epitaph gracing a tombstone, “RIP 2020.” Now THIS, friends, is what you wear to a funeral for a year like that one.

Then the video launches into a series of ornate costumes and dance numbers as Cardi literally becomes some of the finer things in life, like a hood ornament on a Rolls Royce and the pearl at the centre of the oyster.

Just like her last music video from seven months ago, “WAP,” that smashed all records in 2020, we again see Cardi as the sexually dominant one in the relationship with loads of things to say about the dirty deed. At one point we see her holding a vibrator, and then she plays tonsil hockey with her dancers. Hope everyone got a COVID test first!

“Said my face bomb ass tight / Racks stack up Shaq height / Jewelry on me flash light / I been lit since last night,” she raps so quickly, it might take you a minute to actually pick up what she’s saying. Cardi B's rap prowess cannot be overstated.

The premiere of the video last night at exactly midnight was preceded by a YouTube livestream where Ms. Belcalis Almanzar said she wanted this tune to be more “hood” because “WAP” in her opinion was “too sexy.”

“I wanted to do something more gangsta, more cocky,” she said. Well, she definitely has that in spades. At one point, we see her almost like Medusa, except instead of her hair made of snakes, it’s made of talking Barbie dolls. Then she raps, “If there ain’t no ring on my finger, you ain’t going on my ‘gram!”

“UP, ” which is expected to join “WAP” on her highly anticipated 2021 album, couldn’t come at a better time, as Cardi just appeared in a Super Bowl ad for Uber Eats alongside Canadian legend Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, reprising their famous Wayne’s World characters. If you missed it, catch it again this weekend during the big game airing on CTV.
