The Backstreet Boys post a sweet throwback picture for their 27th anniversary

In the battle of boy bands, The Backstreet Boys have landed on top as the group that has defied the odds and stayed together through superstardom, international tours, the rise of the internet and social media, substance abuse issues, solo projects, and fashion trends that have not aged well. On April 20, members AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, and Brian Littrell celebrated the group’s 27^th anniversary. We’d say Backstreet’s back, but to be clear, they’ve never left and we want it that way.The band’s official Twitter account posted a sweet throwback picture on Monday for the band’s anniversary. “Standing together for the first time as a group. We did not know you yet. Each one of you were but a dream to us. Kevin Richardson retweeted the almost three-decade old picture posted by the Backstreet Boys account while his band mates celebrated the anniversary with their own posts. Nick Carter shared more recent pictures of the band, writing that he is looking forward to their future.

Howie Dorough thanked the fans who have been with the group throughout their many albums, music videos and tours.

As for AJ McLean, the fifth Backstreet Boy took time to film a heartfelt message of love and gratitude for his bandmates, his fans, and everyone who has been involved with getting the Backstreet Boys to their incredible milestone. “I’m grateful to the best fans in the world and I’m grateful to my bandmates and my brothers. I’m grateful to the amazing team that has been behind us, helping and pushing us, but mostly importantly fellas, without you guys I would not have been able to fulfil my passion, my dreams,” said McLean.Sitting in front of a wall decorated with awards and records set by the group, the singer continued. “To be so grateful to have such a long career and still going strong, I owe everything to you four.” Calling the group’s 27^th anniversary ‘surreal,’ McLean thanked his bandmates for being there through ‘thick and thin, highs and lows.’ “Cheers boys, here’s the 27 more.”

The Backstreet Boys were formed in 1993 under the leadership of businessman turned music manager Lou Pearlman. Littrell was the last member to join the singing and dancing group and flew from his native Kentucky to Orlando where the band had been rehearsing, becoming an official member of BSB on April 20, 1993. The band gave their first performance only a few weeks later at SeaWorld Orlando and released their self-titled debut album in 1996.Since forming, BSB have released nine albums, including 2019’s DNA, and earned eight Grammy nominations, two American Music Awards, five Billboard Music Awards, three MuchMusic Video Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, one JUNO Award and several other international awards. In 2017, the group began their Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life residency in Las Vegas. Initially scheduled for nine shows, fan demand extended the Planet Hollywood residency for two years.The group has continued reaching out to fans during the ongoing global pandemic, including appearing in virtual visits with healthcare workers. The band also performed together from their separate homes as part of the iHeart Living Room Concert For America, proving that after 27 years, they don’t need to be in the same room to harmonize.
