Zac Efron’s latest role doesn’t have him surviving the wilderness, travelling to the far corners of the earth or
working out with Dwayne Johnson. It’s much more difficult than all three of those things put together—he has to take care of a baby. Efron is joining the remake world and is set to star in a new iteration of
Three Men and a Baby. We still don’t know who the other two men are, but if Zac is in, we are too.Announced on August 10 by
The Hollywood Reporter, Efron will star in the upcoming Disney+ remake of the classic 1987 comedy. Yes, Efron was born the same year the original was released and yes, we do think he should bring back his mustache and go for Tom Selleck’s role in the film. In addition to Selleck, the film also starred Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg as three bachelors living together in New York who suddenly find themselves reluctantly in the care of a baby girl left on their doorstep by one of the bachelor’s ex-girlfriends, played by Nancy Travis. The men eventually find themselves enamored with the baby and band together to protect her from a group of drug dealers. The '80s were wild.Directed by Leonard Nimoy (see ,wild!), the film went on to earn more than $240 million worldwide at the box office, making it the most successful live-action Disney film in the studio’s history at the time. A sequel was released in 1990 once the baby became a little lady and all four stars reprised their roles. Disney had initially planned to release a third film titled
Three Men and a Bride, but the film never materialized. Disney has yet to announce whether any of the three male stars of the original film will make appearances in the remake.
Three Men and a Baby has gone through many iterations. Beginning as a French film and adapted by Disney for North American audiences, the film was later remade in Hindi, as well as for Malayalam and Telugu audiences and twice for Tamil audiences. The upcoming remake marks a return to Disney for Efron, who began his career with the house of mouse by starring in the wildly successful
High School Musical trilogy. Most recently, Efron has been starring in his own travel show called
Down to Earth, which follows the actor as he makes his way around the globe and showcases eco-friendly and sustainable ways of living that are being explored beyond North America.Gordon Gray, who most recently
produced Ben Affleck’s
The Way Back, will be producing the new remake for Disney+. Will Reichel, who wrote 2019’s
Hot Air starring Steve Coogan, Neve Campbell and Taylor Russell, will pen the upcoming remake.
Three Men and a Baby is the latest live-action film by Disney+. The studio has recently released
Noelle starring Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader
, Togo starring Willem Dafoe
, and
Stargirl with Grace VanderWaal. On the remake side, Disney jumped from animation to live-action for
Lady and the Tramp and
Mulan.[video_embed id='2008771']BEFORE YOU GO: Weather news hit goes viral after child starts dancing in the background[/video_embed]
