Who knew that of all the Hogwarts crew, it would be Draco Malfoy getting the gang back together? Tom Felton hosted a mini, unofficial reunion to celebrate the 19
th anniversary of the first
Harry Potter film, calling on Slytherins, Hufflepuffs, Ravenclaws and Gryffindors alike to join the party.Tom Felton’s Home Party livestream took place on November 16 in a bid to raise money and awareness for
The Liv Project, a collective working to lower teen suicide rates. The 33-year-old hosted the soiree from his living room and treated fans to a little music, a live re-watch of
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and plenty of shots of his BFF/co-host, his dog Willow. Felton also answered questions from Potter fans, and eventually some fellow Harry Potter stars stopped by virtually to chat about what that first film, and the franchise, means to them 19 years later.
Those stars included Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, as well as new dad Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley.
How to Get Away with Murder star Alfred Enoch (who played Dean Thomas), Jason Isaacs (Draco’s father Lucius Malfoy), Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) and James and Oliver Phelps (the Weasley twins) also stopped by. In fact, the only major notable kid character who seemed to be missing was Hermione Granger, since Emma Watson was absent from the festivities. The cast dished about what it was like filming on set as children, recalling that original director Chris Columbus didn’t let any of them see the Great Hall until it was time to film there, so that he could capture their genuine wonder and excitement. Felton also dished on his favourite of all the movies, revealing that it was the sixth film, 2009's
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. “Now that was fun,” he said, explaining the movie was the point where Malfoy stopped “being a slimy git” and finally developed into a pivotal character.
The real attention-stealer of the event was Grint, especially when he busted out photos of his new daughter. The actor also revealed that he was the one who would totally break on set, and that he had a hard time keeping it together during even the darkest of scenes. As a result, he earned himself a not-so-flattering nickname over the years.“I remember on Potter it would always be the most inappropriate scenes, like Dumbledore’s funeral was a particularly bad one,” he said. “For some reason I found that absolutely hilarious… Once you start laughing, it’s very hard to stop. I had a particularly bad reputation, they used to call me Go Again Grint because I could never do anything without doing it like 20 times.”Speaking of 20, next year marks a pretty big milestone as the original film turns 20 years old. That didn’t seem to be lost on the gang either, specifically Radcliffe. “My first thoughts are that this is but a mere preview of the nostalgia we'll be immersed in next year when it hits 20 years since the first film was released,” he cryptically teased. In that case, break out the butterbeer. Because if next year looks anything like 2020, then Potter fans everywhere will take all the nostalgia they can get.[video_embed id='2078544']Before you go: These broomstick scooters are the perfect gift for any serious 'Harry Potter' fan[/video_embed]
