If your Spidey senses are tingling, well… they should be. On Thursday, October 1, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Jamie Foxx, who played Spider-Man’s nemesis Electro in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is making his return to the franchise.

How's that for a casting shocker?

This reveal is big news for the Marvel universe, considering Spider-Man’s evolution over the years. From Tobey Maguire to Andrew Garfield, and now, Tom Holland, the beloved series has received plenty of big screen cast shake-ups and creative changes.

Foxx’s rumoured return to the third instalment of the Tom Holland-led series represents an exciting crossover from Garfield’s former Spider-Man. Previously, J.K. Simmons also made the crossover from one Spidey series to another; originally starring as J. Jonah Jameson alongside Maguire, he returned in 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home.

As for the rest of the main cast, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori are all expected to return alongside Foxx and, of course, Holland in Far From Home sequel.

Appearing onscreen opposite Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Foxx's character was an electrical engineer employed at Oscorp Industries named Maxwell “Max” Dillon who becomes obsessed with Spider-Man after being saved by him. Following an incident with a power line and some electric eels, Dillon is transformed into Electro, a powerful electric mutant, and a villain in the series.

Unfortunately for now, further details around the third instalment are currently being kept under wraps. Interestingly, though, Foxx shared a post with Holland earlier last year during D23, which begs the question: has this crossover been in the works for a while?
