Sharkboy and Lavagirl return in 'We Can Be Heroes' photos but who is behind the mask?

Netflix released the first look at the return of Sharkboy and Lavagirl on Wednesday —all grown up — ahead of the release of director Robert Rodriguez's new movie, We Can Be Heroes. Taylor Dooley is returning to play the adult version of Lavagirl in the new movie set in the same cinematic universe, but the real question is: who is behind Sharkboy's mask?Dooley and Taylor Lautner played Lavagirl and Sharkboy in the 2005 movie The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D, but according to Entertainment Weekly, actor J.J. Dashnaw will take over the dad version of Sharkboy. Dashnaw is known for his role as Brat's dad in Spy Kids.Sharkboy and Lavagirl are now parents in the upcoming reboot, and their daughter, Guppy, played by Vivien Lyra Blair from Bird Box, is half-shark. We Can Be Heroes will follow a team of superheroes called The Heroics who need to be rescued by their kids (all with superpowers, of course) after getting kidnapped. The Heroics include Pedro Pascal, Christian Slater, Boyd Holbrook and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas as Director of the Heroics. The kid heroes feature YaYa Gosselin as Missy, Isaiah Russell-Bailey as Rewind, Hala Finley as Ojo, Dylan Henry Lau as Slo-Mo and Akira Akbar as Fast Forward.“A lot of families have spent a lot of time together,” Rodriguez told Entertainment Weekly about the COVID-19 pandemic. “I’ve been getting calls from all kinds of studios: ‘Reboot Spy Kids.’ ‘Reboot Sharkboy.’ Of course, they want to. Fans of Sharkboy were outraged once the first look photos were released and revealed that Lautner would not be returning as the character.
