The dream casting duo of Sandra Oh and Awkwafina has finally given us one thing to celebrate in 2020. Just announced, the two actors will play sisters in an upcoming comedy that they will also produce along with actor Will Ferrell. Thank you, universe. You owed us one.On October 29, Netflix confirmed that Oh and Awkwafina will costar in a comedy about two sisters who embark on a surprising journey and attempt to reconnect. Netflix released the logline for the film, which tells the story of a “lonely recluse whose life is upended when her train wreck of a sister vows to mend their relationship by helping her fulfill her lifelong dream: to be a contestant on her favorite game show.” Oh and Awkwafina’s roles have not been specified, but we are going to bet that Dr. Cristina Yang plays the recluse while Nora from Queens is the trainwreck. In all honesty, these two women are so talented in both drama and comedy that it could go either way. Oh confirmed the casting news on Twitter, linking to Deadline’s article and writing “Yep, it’s in the works.”Jessica Elbaum, Itay Reiss and Maggie Haskins have also signed on as producers. Screenwriter Jen D’Angelo, who is writing the recently-announced Hocus Pocus sequel for Disney+, will also write the film and produce.

Oh currently stars in the dark comedy Killing Eve as British intelligence agent Eve Polastri, a role that earned the Canadian actor her second Golden Globe award (her first was for Dr. Yang in Grey’s Anatomy). Filming on the fourth season of Killing Eve has been delayed due to COVID, which gives fans more time to re-binge the first three seasons.Oh recently lent her famous voice to the animated film Over the Moon, which was released on Netflix earlier this month. The film marks the streaming giant's first foray into animation and is a beautiful love letter by screenwriter Audrey Wells (The Hate U Give, Under the Tuscan Sun, Shall We Dance) to her husband and daughter. Wells wrote the script after she had been diagnosed with cancer, and she passed away in 2018 before production began on Over the Moon.Like Oh, Awkwafina is also recently coming off a Golden Globe win for her quietly brilliant role in Lulu Wang’s 2019 film The Farewell. The rapper-turned-actor released the first season of Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens in January. Awkwafina, real name Nora Lum, created, wrote, executive produced and starred in all 10 episodes of the new comedy, which has already been renewed for a second season. In addition to her new project with Oh, Awkwafina has several other films in the works. She will voice characters for Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon and The Little Mermaid and Awkwafina is starring in next year’s Breaking News In Yuba County, a dramedy that includes Allison Janney, Regina Hall and Mila Kunis.Awkwafina is also set to appear in the upcoming Marvel film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which stars Canadian actor Simu Liu in the title role. Liu, who is making history as the first Asian superhero, recently confirmed that filming has wrapped on the superhero flick.[video_embed id='2058048']Before you go: Couple discovers 60 bottles of 100-year-old whisky in their house[/video_embed]
