Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum are no strangers to rom coms or action flicks and now the pair are teaming up for the first time to bring the two genres of film together. The actors are set to star in the upcoming film The Lost City of D, and yes, we are pretty sure that the D stands for, you know, the D.

Bullock will play a reclusive romance novelist who is frustrated to be stuck on her book tour alongside her hunky cover model, played by Tatum. Things get interesting when the pair are kidnapped and find themselves in the middle of the jungle, where they must work together to survive and – wait for it – may also fall in love. Do we know how this will end? Very likely. Will we still watch it multiple times? For sure.

Bullock has been attached to the project for months and now Variety is reporting that Tatum is in the final stages of negotiations to join the film as the romantic interest. Ryan Reynolds was previously rumoured to be attached to the film, but alas, fans will have to wait even longer for a reunion between The Proposal stars.

In a refreshing move out of Hollywood, Tatum’s casting means the two leads have a 16-year age difference, but this time it is the female actor who is the more senior of the pair. A woman in her mid-50s being found desirable by 40-year-old man? Yes, it can and does happen all the time but it’s something rarely shown in film or TV. Emma Thompson will be thrilled.

Based loosely on the 1984 romantic action film Romancing The Stone starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito, The Lost City of D will be written by Dana Fox and is based on an idea by Seth Gordon. Fox is best known for the romantic comedies The Wedding Date, which starred Debra Messing, Dermot Mulroney, and Amy Adams, and What Happens In Vegas, which featured Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz. The film will be directed by brothers Adam and Aaron Nee, who are best known for their 2015 film Band of Robbers.

Bullock was most recently seen in 2018’s Ocean’s 8 all-female reboot and the successful (and stressful) Netflix drama Birdbox. Bullock recently finished filming an untitled Nora Fingscheidt project, which is based on the 2009 British series Unforgiven and will star Bullock as a woman who attempts to rebuild her life after being released from jail for a violent crime. So, Ocean’s 8, but scary. The Netflix film was shot in Vancouver this year and also stars Viola Davis, Rob Morgan, Vincent D’Onofrio and Jon Bernthal. Like The Lost City of D, Bullock also has a production credit for the upcoming drama.

Tatum has also been keeping busy with projects in front of and behind the camera. The Magic Mike actor will star in the upcoming comedy Dog, which follows two Army rangers and their dog as they travel the Pacific Coast to attend the funeral of their best friend. Tatum is also directing the buddy comedy with Reid Carolin, who wrote the film. Calling it the ‘hardest job’ of his life, Tatum has shared pictures from the set of Dog on his Instagram, including a picture of his post-film ritual of shaving his head to release his character.

In August, Tatum also announced a new project by way of a children’s book. Inspired by his daughter Everly, whom he shares with ex-wife Jenna Dewan, Tatum wrote The One and Only Sparkella. “Guys, I don’t know about you but things got a little weird for me in quarantine,” wrote Tatum in his Instagram post. “I ended up accidentally locking myself in my 7 year old daughter’s room. And I ended up finding my inner child. So this is what I created for my little girl. From what is, I guess, the little girl in me.”
