Malcolm X, Cassius Clay, Jim Brown and Sam Cooke meet in 'One Night in Miami' trailer

The official trailer for Regina King's directorial debut, One Night in Miami, is here, and it puts four Black legends in the same room. Cassius Clay (soon to become Muhammad Ali), civil rights activist Malcolm X, singer Sam Cooke and football player Jim Brown celebrate the professional boxer's 1964 win over Sonny Liston in a Miami hotel.The movie is a fictional depiction of the four men coming together on February 25, 1964. It is inspired by true events such as Muhammad Ali's win and the civil rights movement led by Malcolm X. The historical drama, starring Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, Leslie Odom, Jr. and Kingsley Ben-Adir, is based on a play by Kemp Powers, who wrote the screenplay. The movie looks at the struggles these four men faced and the crucial role they played in the cultural upheaval of the 1960s."You brothers, you could move mountains not lifting a finger," Malcolm X tells the group of men in the trailer. "I'm the new heavyweight champion of the world, and I don't even have a scratch on my face," Cassius Clay says before looking in the mirror and asking, "Why am I so pretty?" One Night in Miami premiered at the Venice Film Festival and screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, building buzz around the movie. King previously told Entertainment Weekly that she was attracted to the project because it “truly captures the conversation and the reflections of the Black man's experience more than anything that I've ever seen.” She also said that she was "really interested in being able to tell a love story with a real historic event as the backdrop."King said that when it came to casting the four major roles, she was “looking for great actors who knew that they should be sleeping, breathing, drinking who they were playing every step of the way.” She said that the actors knew the journey they were about to embark on, and they were aware that "this was not a time to be doing any impersonations or caricatures."One Night in Miami will be released in select theatres on December 25 and Prime Video on January 15, 2021.[video_embed id='2030335']BEFORE YOU GO: Cat attempts daily hilarious attack on mail carrier[/video_embed]
