After shutting down for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, film and TV sets are slowly starting to reopen with added safety measures in place. One of the biggest blockbuster films that is preparing to go back into production is the upcoming
Jurassic World: Dominion, with Universal confirming on Monday that they have a plan in place to
restart filming in July.The
Jurassic World set was shut down in March along with all film and TV productions as the coronavirus began to quickly spread throughout North America and the rest of the world. But starting July 6 director Colin Trevorrow and film leads Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, along with the rest of the cast and crew, will return to the UK’s famous Pinewood Studios to resume shooting. Pratt, Howard and anyone else travelling to the UK from another country will be required to undergo two weeks of isolation before stepping foot on set.Additionally, filming will be done under the strict guidelines imposed by the British Film Institute and British Film Commission, which outline physical distancing and other COVID-19 precautions. Universal will also be implementing their own additional measures to ensure the safety of the cast and crew.According to
Deadline, Universal is spending somewhere around $5 million for added safety protocols, which will include on-site doctors, nurses and isolation booths, 150 hand sanitizer stations and COVID-19 signage throughout the studio. Masks must be worn by crewmembers and actors when they are not on camera. Cast and crew members will also be given COVID training, with added training for departments that are unable to practice physical distancing, including costume and makeup. COVID tests will be administered to everyone involved before filming begins and the cast and crew will be retested several times throughout production. Temperature stations will be set up throughout the studio and a specialized cleaning crew has also been hired to ensure the studio is frequently disinfected. All actors travelling from the US to the UK will be tested before boarding their plane.
Jurassic World: Dominion was only four weeks into its 20 week shoot when production was shut down amid health and safety concerns. According to Deadline, the new safety procedures are not expected to have any major impact on the storyline as large crowd scenes had mostly completed filming before production was shut down.In May, the UK government gave the green light to production studios to begin reopening under the agreement that safety procedures would be followed. Much of the UK is still shut down, including schools and restaurants. Safety and insurance issues between the UK studios and American production companies are still being worked out, but news of
Jurassic World's restart is a signal that other major productions filming in the UK, including
The Batman, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 3, and Disney’s
The Little Mermaid, may also resume production in the near future. On Tuesday,
CBS announced that the
Bold and the Beautiful will begin filming its current season on June 17, making it the first US broadcast series, and possibly the first scripted series, to restart filming on American soil following the COVID-19 shutdowns. The long-running soap opera is filmed at Television City in Los Angeles. All cast and crew members have been tested for COVID-19, and regular testing will take place throughout filming. Shortened workdays, staggered call times and fewer cast and crew members on set are among some of the safety measures CBS has implemented.[video_embed id='1973031']Before you go: hese movies and TV shows will make you feel like you're on vacation[/video_embed]
