Any good thriller comes with unexpected twists, but in the case of Aharon Keshales’ upcoming film, even the casting of the leading roles may surprise you. Former
Saturday Night Live funny man and
We're the Millers star Jason Sudeikis is teaming up with
Lost’s Evangeline Lilly in Keshales’ latest action thriller
Till Death. For those unfamiliar with Keshales’ work, he recently made a name for himself as the co-director of the 2013 revenge horror film
Big Bad Wolves, dubbed
“the best film of the year” by the master of all things twisted, Quentin Tarantino himself. The plot of
Till Death sets a rather unpredictable landscape, following a convicted felon named Jimmy (Sudeikis) who receives early parole after serving twelve years for armed robbery. Following his release, Jimmy finds his way back to his childhood love, Annie, who has terminal cancer. Jimmy vows to give his old friend the best last year of her life — only, it’s not quite that simple. It never is, in thrillers, is it…?So, what can viewers expect from that premise? Is it a love story? Is it a keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat, race-against-time kind of thriller? A bit of both? Keshales isn’t willing to give up too many details yet, but he
did reveal that
Till Death has been his passion project for years. “I came up with the idea during my honeymoon,” he explained. “It’s a love story. Sort of. It’s a love story that got stuck in a Sam Peckinpah action-thriller.” Joining Keshales to write the script is
Big Bad Wolves co-director and writer Navot Papushado, and Kai Mark.If this feels like a bit of a genre switch for Sudeikis, well, that’s because it is. The beloved actor has long since made a name for himself donning leading roles in some of our favourite comedies and dramas, taking over the
SNL stage and quipping jokes about his family life
on talk shows. Despite his notable Hollywood tenure, and his venture into more off-beat sci fi flicks like
Downsizing and
Colossal, this will be the first we see of Sudeikis in a high-octane action film — and we’re excited to watch it all go down.Lilly on the other hand has been somewhat quiet on the film front, taking a well-deserved break from her work on Marvel’s
Ant-Man franchise. She did however capture much attention recently, debuting a new, much shorter 'do on Instagram.
Just last week, the Canadian star documented her transformation from long locks to an edgy buzzcut, with seemingly no explanation for the dramatic change. Could her new look have something to do with this upcoming role? It seems we’ll have to wait to find out…
