Marvel movies are famous for their surprise post-credit scenes but this reveal might take the MCU cake. It’s being reported that director Chloe Zhao’s Eternals movie features a post-credit appearance of none other than the Olivia Wilde-dating, Vogue cover-starring, Watermelon Sugar High-ing boy-band-frontman-turned-serious-thespian Harry Styles. That’s right, he’s a superhero/demi-god now. NBD.
Early reports out of Eternals screenings claim (spoil?) that Styles is a not-yet-seen-in-the-films Marvel character named Eros, who is, get this Thanos's brother. The littler baddie will appear alongside the already dazzling cast of Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, Gemma Chan, Kit Harrington, and Salma Hayek. Are we shocked Harry was asked to join this clique? No, no we are not. This is what those in the biz call “typecasting.” Nailed it.
As the story goes, Styles has been cast as Eros, little brother of Thanos (played by Josh Brolin across the Marvel franchise). Thanos, a big bad in the Marvel universe, sounds like he might not be all that close with his bro Eros, considering that the latter is known for his mischievous interferences in the realm of L-O-V-E while Thanos is known for his non-mischievous interferences in the realm of destroying entire systems of existence.
It was Variety film critic Matt Donnell who broke the Harry news on Twitter, writing:
Fans, naturally, were split over the big reveal (also known as a “spoiler” to cineastes who like to go into a film with a mind as blank as a fresh canvas). Some who saw the news were a little angry.
While others were motivated to go out and see a movie that might not have otherwise been on their must-watch list.
As for Styles, he did not show up for the movie premiere in Los Angeles — most likely because he’s on the road and was playing a show in Cleveland for his Love On Tour run of concerts. Patient fans that we are, we’ll wait for an Eros standalone film to see Harry work the movie premiere red carpet.
