Just in case you don't hear enough about Harry Styles on the regular, he's about to dominate the superhero world as well. The singer recently made headlines when it was leaked that he'd joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Eros, brother of Thanos.
Styles' first appearance comes in the just-premiered Eternals during one of those infamous MCU post-credits scenes. His character is able to control people's emotions and is considered to be the opposite of his brother as a bit of an outgoing womanizer. Not exactly a stretch for dashing Styles, let's be real.
Speaking to Cinema Blend about the casting, director Chloé Zhao explained, "Well I pitched the idea of Eros to Kevin [Feige] a while back, and I love the idea of getting to know Thanos' brother. He's an Eternal. And the idea of him having gone through what the Eternals have gone through, doing their work for the Celestials is very interesting and how that might have affected Thanos to become who he is today."
She added, "And I love that idea and for me it was never like, OK, let's do this character and let's go find an actor. I kept tabs on Harry Styles since he appeared in Dunkirk 'cause whoever Nolan casts I always keep an eye open and I immediately thought, ‘This person makes me think of Eros as a character.’ He comes to life when I met him. It was very much a package."
Sounds like we've got a full-fledged actor on our hands! Not that it's Styles' first shot. As Zhao referenced, Styles debuted his acting chops in Dunkirk in 2017, and is set to star in two big upcoming films: Olivia Wilde's Don't Worry, Darling and Michael Grandage's My Policeman.
Back in 2017, ahead of the Dunkirk premiere, Harry told reporters, “I started acting when I was younger in school. I’ve always liked it, and have always been a massive fan of movies." He also told Today, "I was nervous, it's completely different to music. But it was really fun and one of the best experiences I've ever had."
It's unclear when he'll appear next in a Marvel movie, or how big his role will become, but we do know the MCU loves him already. Here's hoping for an Eros-led movie in the next two to three years!
